Pelini fired

Tifwiw, but my sources are saying keep an eye on peyton manning to be named head coach at nebraska. Him saying omaha at the line of scrimmage is code for nebraska being a destination he is interested in.

The fact that the UN is in Lincoln means nothing. If he were mentioned to be the manager of a college WS baseball team I may be inclined to believe you.

College football had changed so much since Nebraska won titles. When they won in the 90's most teams in big 8 12 were down. I think there's nothing wrong with wanting more , but Nebraska isn't bama,Ohio state, Florida. I think they are being delusional and don't realize the landscape has changed. They may one day regret this decision

Canes going to fire Golden

KIFFIN and UM matched made in heaven.

That would be awesome......Our problem with Kiffin is that our Athletic director wasn't strong enough or willing enough to keep him in line. I think Kiffin has learned his lesson on being arrogant and has been a good citizen at BAMA. I wonder if he could get Ed Orgeron back to recruit

Pelini never dipped below 9 wins. Their beloved Tom Osborne never won less than 9 and he didn't win 12 until 10 years on the job. I just don't get it. If I was a coach, there's no amount of money I'd take to go to Nebraska. I guess they expect you to go 12-1 or 13-0 every year.

The grass is always greener..... comes to mind. Not sure what the real goal of these schools and fans are. I had a blast watching LSU last year and they lost 3 games, too me the most enjoyable season to watch them play.

Not saying they shouldn't have fired him, but nobody can say he has done a terrible job... I would hire as a defensive coordinator without blinking.

when does Hoke get his pink slip ?

The interesting thing about Hoke is that his contract has a much bigger buyout if he is fired before December 29th (IIRC). If Michigan decides to hold onto him until then and let him go afterward, it could really screw up another program whose coach replaces him (a la Kiffin bolting for USC last minute).

This.. Pellini over Chavis? Which one?

Kiffin to Miami would be a nightmare for UF. An elite recruiting staff that will keep Miami talent in Miami, coupled with an already powerful FSU will make the UF job much harder.

This.. Pellini over Chavis? Which one?

As a defensive coordinator very tough choice there, Chavis has really done good the last 3-4 years with all the juniors leaving year in and year out and in some case sophomores.... hard to say anyone could do what he has done. LSU's D might be the youngest in the nation or close to it and it was #1 in the SEC in yardage and #2 in points allowed... going to be very hard to beat Chavis at this point in time.

I have a feeling Nebraska is about to embark on a journey not too dissimilar to Tennessee's over the last six years. I'm in the same camp: 5 yards and a cloud of dust does not win championships anymore and that's how they built their heritage before (also see Notre Dame and Michigan as well). I just don't see any coach being able to take it above the 9 win threshold consistently, and most coaches know that, and won't want anything to do with that program. I look for a circus that will end in a Dooley-like find at the last minute.

An expensive fire and possible replacement

From Coaching Search
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Pelini will be owed $7.65 million — $150,000 monthly for the next 51 months — and the assistants will be owed just over $3.1 million, with mitigation

Oregon offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach and former Nebraska quarterback Scott Frost could emerge as a candidate for the full-time job, as well as Utah State head coach Matt Wells, Memphis head coach Justin Fuente and former USC interim head coach Ed Orgeron. Wyoming head coach and former Nebraska assistant Craig Bohl could also be considered.

So yeah 10 million to pay these guys plus whatever they need to pay that home run hire they have waiting in the wings. This should be interesting, and not too unfamiliar to UT fans.

Suppose Fulmer had Pelini's record during his last 7 seasons...would we have let him go? Probably not.

No but like pelini, Fulmer lost the important game every year - and it usually wasn't close (florida). So I can see where a fan base would think its not enough because hey I've seen us there but damn wouldn't 9-10 wins be nice??

So by that reasoning Tennessee will always be a has been too huh? Oklahoma will never be elite again. Neither will Texas, USC. Yep. The landscape has changed. Only three schools (One of which is awful now) can be any good

I agree with your main point that Nebraska is going to struggle with this hire and over the next few years. However, Nebraska has to have a running offense. It would be very tough to have a wide open passing offense in Nebraska in November.

Craig Bohl would be an outstanding hire, and IMO, is the most likely candidate. Only been in Wyoming for a year - but what he accomplished in the FCS with the Bison is nothing to be sneezed at. He has Nebraska connections - one hell of a recruiter - and not an ahole like Coach P.

As a Purdue fan and watching the Tiller era unfold, I disagree with this. The only problem was the defense and special teams killed Purdue during the Brees years. However, our Novembers played just fine. The only teams that always had Tiller's number were Penn St. and Michigan, both games were usually played in October, and it had nothing to do with the offense per se, it was always complete mess ups with the defense and/or special teams. IU was our last game every year, and I don't think they ever scored under 40 in that game during the entirety of Tiller's tenure.

And actually by 5 yards and a cloud of dust, I'm not saying any run offense, anyway. Nebraska literally got themselves 5 cornbread bulls that could push a bulldozer over, and someone ran behind that. I am willing to bet that Tom Osborne himself would not be in much better (if better at all) position then Pellini in today's game. I don't think it's too odd of a coincidence that Nebraska started to fade around the same time Stoops and Brown took over OU and Texas respectively.
