Could Vols be next?

It's very likely SEC Bowls won't start shaking out until after the SECCG in two weeks so don't be ready for an announcement yet.

Just keep in mind, this is a likely opponent.

I really don't think that we will get that bid...but that's just a feeling...plus I don't think two sec teams will make it to BCS bowls.

yep, Cal not beating USC this weekend, really hurt the chances of two SEC teams in the BCS...could still happen if ND lost to USC and USC lost to UCLA...but that is not very likely as i think USC will now win out and be the other team in the BCS title game.

winner of the SEC CG goes to the Sugar...loser likely goes to Capital one or Cotton. then it's up to the bowls to decide after that...i think we'll be in ATL personally.

i wouldn't mind playing PSU either...we kind of owe'em for those other two bowl game losses we suffered to the NL's.

Those last 2 games sucked. We looked great in the first 1/2 of one of them. That's all I remember before "not wanting to remember."

A little off topic but I listened to a radio host today who was pointing out that OhSt. has a 50-day gap between games. If an SEC team, and UF is probably the only one with a realistic shot, can get to the NCG you'd have to think they'd be a lot closer to being game ready than the Buckeyes.

Sounds good, but I don't think Florida can play with them at this stage of the season.

I tend to agree, but it is so hard to tell where teams lie relative to each other without competition between these big conferences. Has an SEC team even played a Big Ten team this year? I can't think of one.

Example from another conference: UT versus Cal. Although Cal is a very good team in the PAC-10, they apparently suck when compared to the SEC.

Based on what I saw on Saturday, I wonder whether the Big Ten plays defense, at all.

LG, I know these schedules are made way in advance, but what the heck was Florida thinking when they scheduled a SoCon patsy at such a critical time for ratings....

I think I read somewhere that Western Carolina was the last minute fill-in after the 12th game was added.

You'd still think they could do better than that, though.

First thing I thought of when I looked over that bowl projection list is that FL-Mich was most intriguing match-up. Also thought that GT-Louisville in Orange Bowl would be a sign of the apocalypse!
Unfortunately, I don't think we're headed to FL or Atl. I'm really afraid it's going to be MCB, and then we will continue our recent reputation of underperforming 1) on field because team won't be fired up and 2) in attendance.

The SEC should've required another conference game when the 12th game was added.

The answer to all three points is simple: $.

When the NCAA allowed the twelfth game, most of the big teams, like Florida, went looking for second tier opponents that could genertae an extra home game and generate the usual millions in revenue. Look at FSU, they added in Western Michigan.

This has always been a bone of contention for schools like Florida because Florida will not offer these schools a home-and-home deal, like we have with FSU or the SEC teams, i.e. in Gainesville one year, at the opponent the next.

This issue is why, for example, Florida would not schedule Miami. It was not some goofy fear issue (sorry hat, if you read this). It was all money driven. And in fact Florida has now reset Miami as a semi-regular opponent coming up in a few years.

In this particular case, when the 12th game was approved, the Florida athletic department emailed around to a long list of schools that are traditionally decent, but that are not so good that they will demand a return visit from the Gators (teams like Memphis or Montana or Marshall). That way, we get to keep our extra home game and the big $.

WCU took the deal and made $450,000 for their efforts. None of the other schools we typically rely on for such money maker games accepted, mainly because they had already accepted other offers. Florida was probably a little slow to get going on that, and it may have hurt us in the polls a little. But I think the pollsters who understand the system aren't all that bothered by it. We didn't move at all.

And in fact it gave the team a much needed breather, some time to heal, and gave some second, third, and fourth stringers some invaluable game situation experience.

So all in all it worked out. And I don't think it hurts us much in the end. With games at FSU and then thbe SECCG, there's plenty of time for Florida to impress (if it plays well in those games). And at the end of the day our SOS will still be among the best in the top BCS teams.

With 10 BCS spots, I"m not sure who you put in the BCS if the SEC doesn't get a second BCS spot. The names may change a little, but the way I see it you have:

OSU, USC, ND, Mich, SEC Champ, Big 12 Champ, Acc Champ, Big East, and Boise St (if they win this weekend) probably have 9 spots sewn up. Who is the other team if not the SEC? The ACC won't put in a second team, nor will the the Big 12. The Pac-10 shouldn't. I suppose the Big East could, but I still think a 2 loss SEC team would have an advantage.

Am I leaving something out?

WVU or Louisville, whichever isn't the Big East champion, unless Rutgers beats WVU

Id would love to see a Vol/Sooner matchup.....I would love to see a UM/UF matchup, it would give the world a chance to show the sec is truly the best conf.....To say that Michigan is better then FL at this point of the season is CRAP. They've played 2 big teams ND and OSU, they suprised the irish. And if it wasnt for that horrible 3rd Qt. by Troy smith they wouldve gotten blown out in by osu. Michigan HAS PLAYED NOBODY, when FL has played a schedule that is ONE OF THE TOUGHEST IN THE NATION and to come out with one loss, COME ON PEOPLE. If florida wins out i think they deserve a NT shot.(but im basing my opinion off of the whole season NOT 2 games)
