Penn State got screwed

I get the 2 loss deal. But come on, beat Ohio St. and win your conference championship. Smells like a Buckeye payoff. Bama's gonna roll over everyone anyhow.
Penn St screwed themselves by losing to 4-loss Pitt and losing by 39 points to Michigan. If Michigan hadn't screwed themsleves too by losing to 4-loss Iowa, Penn State wouldn't have "backed in" to the B1G CG. No sympathy for Penn State or Mich. OSU and Wash both have better resumes than Penn St. Committee got it right. None of the 2-loss teams have better resumes than the 1-loss teams that got in.

Washington doesn't have a better resume. But I don't feel sorry for Penn State. Should've beat Pitt.

Resumes (Ws & Ls vs ranked teams):

4) UW: 12-1; Ws 1 T10, 2 T25; L 1 T10; Champ

5) PS: 11-2; Ws 2 T10, 1 T25; Ls 1 T10, 1 T25; Champ

Losses matter.

I'm not as much psu got screwed as I am OSU knows where the pictures are and the bodies are buried. If you can't even win your division much less your conference you shouldn't even get an arms reach of the NC.

Simple solution they could have sought:

Include Ohio St, Penn St, Clemson and Washington in the playoffs.

Alabama is clearly superior to any of them. Declare them the natty champs without further proof and let these other four duke it out for second.

Part of the problem a lot of people have with OSU right now is that OSU got in back in 2014 because the committee valued their conference title, vs TCU and Baylor who were stuck in the Big 12 gridlock, but both very good teams. OSU had a crappy out of conference loss that year vs a crappy Va Tech team by two touchdowns at home. But...the narrative was the conference championship OSU won vs the Big 12 not having a conference championship game.

So...the Big 12 commish says this:

Obviously I acknowledge the difficulty of the task, but I'm not sure what I advise my members right now, because we've been telling them that nonconference schedules matter, and one of the four has an exceedingly weak nonconference schedule," he said, referring to No. 4 Washington, which notched wins over Rutgers, Idaho and FCS Portland State. "And we've been telling them the 13th data point matters, and we added a conference championship game because of that. We've always heard that conference championships matter and division championships matter, and now it's confusing.

He's right. In 2014 they emphasized OSU's conference championship over TCU, despite OSU losing to a bad Va Tech team at home. Now, the narrative is PSU lost to Pitt. Maybe PSU should have played Eastern Montana School for the Blind instead of Pitt (who beat Clemson at Clemson BTW). After all, look at Washington's non-conference schedule.

Committee is sending mixed messages.
