Penn State sanctions reduced

Yorkvol, your right, joe was the king in state college, ruled over all.. if he didnt want police involved, they weren't.. if he didnt aant something to get out, it didnt..I hear stories all the time about players who did sneaky crap, and no one got in trouble. .I dont think people outside of PA,or let alone outside of state college realize how much joe controlled the university. ..

Yes, I know the above is stupid, but Vol76's position is about the same. Everyone that had anything to do with this should be punished to the fullest extent of the law in criminal court........not the court of the NCAA.

Agreed, but there is an even bigger issue here. The NCAA's sanctions aren't punishing one single person who had anything to do with the crime or the cover up. By the time the NCAA acted, every one of those gentleman were outside the NCAA's authority (and a couple of them were never under that authority to begin with).

To a large degree, I agree with you here. But let's not pretend like Penn State is/was the only school in the country with way too much power vested in a coach. Please don't read this as me suggesting that what happened with Sandusky at PSU could happen anywhere, because that's not at all what I'm getting at. But if this is about sending a message regarding the "culture" of college athletics, then it's certainly not just a Penn State problem.

When you've got coaches making 10x as much as university presidents, then you can't argue that any of our priorities are completely in line.
