Penn State scandal (merged)

Hope you are strong enough to endure the internet attack you have just submitted yourself for...

Not worried. I don't think for a second that he knew what was going on.

Certainly could have done more, but the piling on is getting insane.

I've been thinking this since the news broke. Yes, there would be outrage about how the bowl is for the players, and none of this is their fault. It still feels wrong to give that university any sort of benefits.

The university benefits most from bowls. $$, publicity, they network with higher ups about their program, they impress recruits. In all honesty the fun and playstations the players get don't match up to what the school gets. Punish the school.

It has a little dirt on it, but I agree w u mostly.

You have to be kidding, right?

The man has known for years that Sandusky was accused of sexually abusing kids, and you say "It has a little dirt"

Come on!

What would you do if someone you trusted came to you and said your best friend was sexually abusing kids?

Would you allow him to be around your kids?

Friends kids?

Or would you just let it go and hope it doesnt happen again?

I've decided I'm not going to judge any of them. I honestly can't imagine where you begin to deal with this. Especially current students.

He f***ing knew. They tried to cover it up in 1998. Then again in 2002. And he STILL brought little boys to PSU campus. This is stupid. We're talking about KIDS.

Well with hindsight the answer is easy, but I can't certainly see where Paterno was betrayed by a guy he trusted. It's easy to say he didn't do enough now that we know the guy is a complete predator, but the snap judgement on Paterno is off. It's obviously exacerbated by the crime, but I don't for one second believe he was involved in some elaborate cover up to help save himself.

So you dont believe Jo Pa? He said he was told & he told administration....how do you not believe that? The piece of trash did NOTHING! Don't feel sorry for that old man....feel sorry for the additional victims that lived through being raped while Jo Pa did NOTHING.

I'm sure the students parents will understand. That gives them more timte to transfer their kids to a decent school. UT has some spots open.

Two things:

Why do you assume that Paterno trusted the GA?

Why is Paterno at fault for reporting to the AD who then reported it to Shultz (who oversaw the Penn State Police Department)?

The AD and Shultz are the ones who lied about this and never moved forward, respectively.

And justifiably so. What if it had been your kid that got attacked after Joe Pa told his AD and didn't follow up? Anyone who knew and didn't notify the Police should burn.

I believe the mom was more upset at the ga than Paterno. He is the witness.

This is stupid. Joepa SHOULD HAVE BANNED that human waste that very instant FOREVER> Not give him his very own little boys camp to privately rape kids on the PSU campus. Unbelievable.

So u just ban anybody who gets accused of anything? It's easy to say that now, but the da didn't press charges.

He trusted him enough to take the info to the AD

Paterno was morally obligated to report it once he realized nothing was going to be done

It would like you knowing that murder took place and you told your boss, but he did nothing about it. That doesnt keep you from being liable

Are you honestly trying to excuse Paterno from any blame?

His career is not the least tarnished in my eyes. He was a great coach and a great man. He made the mistake of not following up with the AD.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Paterno made more than a simple mistake of not following up. Even giving Paterno the benefit of doubt after the 2002 incident, he had an opportunity to disassociate Sandusky from the program after testifying to the grand jury and he still chose not to.

So you see an employee rape a child in your office and you tell your boss. A month, then a few years go by and the employee comes to work everyday like nothing happened. Even if you didn't witness it first-hand, ouldn't you feel like you had a responsibility to do more? If not, you are a coward or part of the coverup.
