Penn State scandal (merged)

The whole of Penn State is stained by this. Recruits will likely de-commit. Current players will likely want out of their scholarship. The emotional reaction this should elicit from everyone who hears the story is one that will not go away anytime soon.

What the hell is going to come out that will make a difference? By his own testimony to the grand jury, Paterno heard an allegation of child rape by a former coach who'd been accused of it before, and failed to alert the authorities. By his own testimony to the grand jury, the GA actually witnessed an act of child rape, and did nothing other than call his dad and tell the football coach. We have enough of their own testimony to know that they're shiatheads and cowards and ought to be fired in disgrace.

Agree! I don't give a crap about joe pa's legacy. He didn't give a crap innocent children were being raped.

This is just the beginning. The campus is flooded with media and a full investigation is about to be launched. You really hope none of these come true, but here are some theories floating about who knew what and why nothing was done:

1) As mentioned above: The whole admin knew everything in '98 and organized the safe "phase him out and maybe it will go away" approach with Zandusky's early-retirement in '99. Giving him full access to campus/facilities makes it look like they celebrated his retirement.

2) Mcqueary was told to keep his mouth shut to the full authorities about the '02 incident, and in exchange he would be given a full time position with the team. JoePa was on shaky ground with the Admin after back-to-back losing seasons and so did not go above them when they did not pursue this.

3) JoePa and the Admin have always known about Zandusky and have just looked the other way to avoid this present situation. And in '04 when Spanier and Curly went to Joe Pa's house to basically fire him, Joe Pa countered with "if you do this, then I will be forced to reveal ________".

4) JoePa really runs the university, has always known everything about Zandusky, and he was calling the shots to not report this b/c he didn't want his program taken down.

5) JoePa was never really told the extent of any of this, since he's been old was naive to how bad all this really was and genuinely thought in his old "out of touch" age that he had done the neccessary things.

just some things floating around today around State College and the campus.

I'll take door #2.

If all that happened was as bad as what Tressel did or the U then it would be ok to let Joepa fade out. And those things were BAD!!!! this is little kids!!!! He should be escorted off campus IMMEDIATELY. This was condoning child rape.

As much I want want to see him out of there yesterday, there's a part of me wants to see the reception he gets at away games for the rest of the year. Forget SEC hostility, that team is going to be subject to a level of negativity that no one's ever seen I would think.

I say 1,2, and 5.

He is crap. Say what you want about Fulmer but he just lost touch with how to run a winning program. But he was HONORABLE. He was loyal to his UT family to a fault of not letting bad staff go but he wouldn't have ever let child rape go down. I could care less about Joepa and his legacy. He has been blackmailing PSU for 14 years.

Ohio State next week.

So your wife works with victims, your around this quite a bit and your OK with this enabler? Either you are a complete moron or she sucks at her job. The old bastard even said he should have done more. 60 yr old man, 10 yr old boy, and shower, what else do you need?

You said exactly what I was gonna say. That made no sense. Noone with any conscience could accept this behavior.

Wonder how they feel about this. I would think that a lot of posters would say thank you Joepa but you got to go.

From my understanding there are some who say Paterno didn't do anything wrong because he told his boss, the AD.

He's a piece of garbage. Period. What he did (or rather didn't do) showed his true colors and what kind of man he really is. Trash, absolute trash.

He put himself above the lives of children.

Sorry, not a great man.
