Penn State scandal (merged)

I guess you didn't know that some of their alumni actuall did burn their diplomas.

Volstyle, I'm actually not just picking on you. If any institution is forced to fire their entire administration over their handling of child rapes that went on during their watch, it absolutely tarnishes their reputation. It doesn't matter if it's Harvard or Pellissippi State.

tarnishes* that's a different story. I don't disagree with that. Sure their reputation may be tarnished but it's not going to mean students are going to quit choosing to go to Penn State, just as they would continue to choose to attend Harvard, Pellisippi State, or UT.

it amazes me how one can defend the indefensible. I thought a lot of Joe Paterno before, but now just see him as a piece of ****.

because it corroborated what most folks tied to the program already knew and he had already been investigated for same.

He is absolutely at fault for failure to follow up when he saw nothing happening.

Passing the buck is hardly all we should expect of the head of the program.

So basically he is ultimately guilty for passing the buck?

This could be financially devastating for Penn State

Had that conversation today. No way donations don't flat out disappear. Funds will shrink. Attorney fees in the millions and lawsuits in the 100's of millions. Any holdings that PSU has--land, other assets-will be taken over.
These are obviously just my opinions, but I don't know how PSU will survive, unless there is some legal mojo that prevents them from certain liabilities and prevents them from going under due to PSU being a state university.

There is no way they let him walk the sidelines or set in the booth for 3 more games. I bet they force him out by the end of the week. There is no face left to save here, it's a total disaster at this point.

It would give anyone second thoughts about going to that school. And, maybe you should read the big thread on this scandal. The governor is going to ask them to investigate whether the Clery Act was violated, and if it was, the University can be banned from participating in the Federal Student Aid program. That would be devastating to the school.

Better tell that to Volstylexx. He's in the other thread claiming that this little incident has no impact on anything other than the football program.

The whole can of **** has been opened up

People in high places are pissed off about this

No stone will be left unturned

Are you serious? I mean, I really don't understand what those of you that pretend that Joe Pa's immune from criticism on this are thinking. It's completely unbelievable to me.

He is guilty for failing to do what one would expect of a decent human being. Lack of follow up from anyone involved says to me that there was no intention, on anyone's part, to hammer Sandusky and end this garbage.

This is exactly what should happen. This means there's going to be some people get annihilated for this, and that's exactly what needs to happen.

I read that a woman had a sign or a sign was placed on the statue of Paterno at PSU that read:

"Evil exists when good men do nothing."

I think that pretty much sums its up.

I mean really.... who allows someone who they at the very least suspect to be a pedaphile to hang around the program? ......

There is no excuse for what happened there..... None.... He should have cut ties with Sandusky the moment this was even suspected and went straight to the police. Then reached out to help the kids that were affected by this monster.....

Penn St is liable for Millions.... Hundreds of Millions IMO... I hope these people bankrupt the damn place. What was allowed there should never happen and a message needs to be sent. This is unacceptable....

The civil suits will come next. No doubt
