Mizzou has the leading rusher in the conference & cook hurts you with his runs. I fully expect Banks to force Cook to make plays passing all day. They are a very balanced offense but if you try to stop everything, you end up stopping nothing.
Statistically wright is better and collectively we have the edge on rushing in a huge way.

Schrader - 162 carries 919 yards 5.7 average 10 TD

Wright - 110 carries 826 yards 7.5 average 3 TD (Sampson and small vulture the tuddies)

Mizzous 2nd best rusher

Peat - 64 carries 274 yards 4.3 avg 2TD

Tennessee's number 2 and 3 rushers

Small - 82 carries 415 yards 5.1 avg 2 TD
Sampson - 71 carries 404 yds 5.7 avg 7TDs

They aren't a balanced attack. They're a pass first offense. Make them beat us on the ground.

Good thing you’re not a DC.

I aint hearin' a lotta praise for Drinkwitz around here. But, you gotta give this guy some props. Nobody saw them being decent this year. But, they are having a great year. If he beats us and avenges last years game where we ran up the score on them, he will be a hero. We really need a big game here to put his bronze statue to rest over there. I'll take a 35-34 win all day in this one.

I'm more concerned about the refs...

If the refs actually CALL offensive holding and defensive PI against Mizzou we can and will beat them in their house. I think its really that simple.

Someone posted earlier we went 177mins straight in SEC games this season without a live ball penalty called against our opponents. 3mins shy of 3 ENTIRE GAMES. The holding against our DEs, triangle chokeholds, rear naked chokes etc has been so blatant that the SEC crews should have been suspended. Repeatedly. We wont beat Missouri and 4 or 5 officials after we hung 63 on them last season.

Defense is better all the way around. 3rd and long still makes me want to pull my damn hair out but we’ve made some steps forwards. This defense with last years offense is in the playoffs.

Uga and the others are way weaker this season than last. Bama too. I firmly believe we could win it all this season with Hooker and Hyatt only added to this years team. Just those 2 along with Squirrel, Castles, Warren etc and the best RB room in the country ....are all we would need. We would be undefeated right now and bout to bust Jawjas ass wide open..

We average 78 more yards a game on the ground while they average 46 more yards a game through the air than we do. We are deeper at running back. If we make them beat us on the ground, our depth in the rushing attack will be a bigger deal than their one running back.

If you don’t control their run game, they’ll have the ball all game. Banks has showed that he’ll do that & gets stops when the field gets small.

A good QB makes a difference in how a team plays. Let's hope Joe continues to improve.

Agree. We need to stop the run and contain Cook's scrambles first, but I really hope Banks plays some press coverage on 3rd and 4th downs to give our pass rush a chance and take away the easy underneath throws that have been killers.

Good reason Martinez must go!!!!!!!!!!
That's like buying a Chevrolet that begins to have problems right away that your mechanic can't fix... so you fire your mechanic. Banks calls the plays. Banks determines whether they're going to play tight coverage or give cushion. Multiple times this year including the first half of UConn the plan has pretty obviously been to play soft, keep everything in front, and hope that mediocre to bad QBs can't hit the throws.

That strategy has failed virtually every time. That's not Martinez's fault. That's Banks.

Schrader doesn't scare me in the least. Not even a little. Cook hurt the Vols last year breaking the pocket. He's done it to multiple teams this year. That IS their best running threat.

If the fans on here complained about the secondary after 1 or 2 bad games it would be one thing, but we are into year 2 of losing key games ( see South Carolina last years game ) because our offense can't overcome the points given up by our secondary. Maybe we are hoping Banks comes on here and reads these comments and stops playing 30 yards off the line giving easy 1st downs and TD's.. We should have beaten Bama and Florida I don't think our secondary talent is that much lower than the rest of the SEC, but players are not being put in position to win the games in one area that we whine about each week.
Statistically, Banks has improved our defense 3 consecutive seasons. Isn’t that what we want? Nobody in their right mind expected Tennessee to have an elite defense in year 3 under Heupel/Banks. Being an upper-middle-tier SEC defense at this point is a great sign.

Counter Point- what's our record when we decide to play a soft zone? Maybe the South Carolina game is the only loss but there could have been other things going on there.

We will contain the run game. We just will. I'm simply saying get the air out of the game and make the better rushing team win. It will be us.
