Jayson Jenkins in the portal now as well and he played Saturday night.I am not sure how much of the OP info is correct. Harrison is going to the portal but I am not sure who else.
And this may not be a popular opinion, but if a guy is leaving and wants to go out with his teammates one last time, and he is there to play for those teammates, that doesn't bother me. Most players know whether they are ready to go or whether they want to be with their teamamtes on the national stage one last time, and those guys know whether thay are invested for the game or not. Some are ready to bail and some want one more battle.
The only answer there ever was to all this mess and killing the student athlete was to ammend scholarships to provide a monthly spending account. A decent one to boot. But, equal for all. College rosters is not the place to have an $8 mil QB and a $25K lineman. 18-20 year olds are not prepared for that dynamic. The NCAA had opportunties for decades to make this happen the right way. My kid got me tickets a couple years for my B-day. First to SC at home. Then GA. Maybe CJH's 1st year on the GA game. Too expensive now. And the cost per opponent is broad. We had front row behind the recruit mat for SC. For UGA, were last row against the wall on opponent side. One row high and we'd have been upper level. And those were 3 times the SC tickets. The world has changed in many ways since covid. We can argue for good or for bad. One of the things that came out of it was that additional year. That seemed to be the first domino.
I attend UT sporting events less and less because it is becoming so dang expensive yet if you want to compete with the Joneses then you gotta help pay.
I think real changes will be made if fans stop watching but it would have to be college football fans collectively. One or two fan bases aren't going to risk their school falling behind to other schools.
I'm not against guys making money but I said years ago these would lead to disastrous consequences if/when you started basically bidding on players. Add to the the mess the portal has created in recent years, then it really isn't about amateur athletics or "student" athlete at all anymore.
All that may be true, and there's alot of opinions on these guys making this money as freshmen even that have earned nothing. But, don't be pro money and pro portal, but expect some kind of miracle on the field when no one is invested in team dynamics anymore. There will be no more dynasties past what a collective can afford to provide each year. And those schools will be minimal. There will be no more roster devlopment. Only purchases. Everyone can take their marbles and go at any time.Like any other endeavor, what people will pay is what it's worth. It's not like these players CREATED this market that pays them big money to play, it's been going on for decades and decades.
That the market exploded when it became legal is what markets sometimes do. It'll probably "bust" at some point but it's hard to fault players for taking what's offered.
Is it good for the sport? Not at all. Is it wrong for them to get paid? Not at all. It's how America has always worked. People pay some people a lot of money for some services. I can't help but say good for them and God Bless America.
Knowing they were leaving after the season ends. Some even have deals with other schools already set.
Todays CFB really is screwed up
I'm not pro money or pro portal but if we're pro winning at the level we're winning at now, that's the route we'll be taking. All that may be true, and there's alot of opinions on these guys making this money as freshmen even that have earned nothing. And if there weren't going to be locked in they would've hit the road already. They want to increase value/stock and risk injury playing for a team knowing they won't be back. They have something to gain by playing well in that game and something to lose by not playing well. I highly doubt they're out there tanking, if that's the insinuation.Every team during bowl season has a few guys who played but plan on transferring. Why are we pretending this is odd?
I’ve been employed at my company for damn near 14 years. I would leave tomorrow if another company contacted me and offered to double my pay and benefits.I disagree a bit. I think we all like to believe that they’re all about winning, but I think the main driving force is money. It’s that way for most everyone, whether a collegiate or professional. Not a slam towards the player, but I just think that’s it. I truly believe that the athletes would leave a contender for anyone, if the money was right. Just the way of the world.
I agree 100%, but a lot of folks like to romanticize about these guys just wanting to “go to a contender”, and be all about competing and winning. I disagree. Right or wrong, the money is the motivating factor. They’d go play for Kent State, if the money was right. Not knocking anyone, they just aren’t all about the noble team task of winning.I’ve been employed at my company for damn near 14 years. I would leave tomorrow if another company contacted me and offered to double my pay and benefits.
The NCAA is banking on Congress to bail them out of this mess. I don't see it happening but that's what the NCAA wants. The bad thing is I don't hear a lot of possible solutions being offered by NCAA or any other outlet that can remedy this. Maybe just offer every player a base salary so they are at least not being left off the payroll.
The NCAA fined Ohio St and Michigan $100k each for the melee that happened at the end of their game. Where does that money go ?
