Pete Carroll wanting to prove himself in the SEC (extreme pipe dream) (merged)

I'll believe it when i see it. The past 2 years he's in the NC game if he only has one loss.
But LSU had 2 last year. If he and UF both win out, there is no freaking way that USC is going to the title game. Ain't happening. In fact, he'll be behind the Big 12 winner too, all because the Pac 10 has been awful this year.

Last year wasn't the norm. Every major team lost multiple times. He's currently in a position where it is a 100% lock he goes the NC game if he has zero losses and a 80-90% chance if he has one loss. If he was at Tenn he wouldn't be getting this benefit of the doubt.

How can you even pretend to make this statement. Any SEC school that goes undefeated at this point will go to the championship game and a 1 loss SEC team has the best shot of going to that game over any other 1 loss squads.

Now that the SEC is generally viewed as the best conference (rightly or wrongly), the top horse from the conference is heading to the title game. Only undefeated teams will jump over them.

He would have the opportunity to coach against the greatest college competition week in and week out

None of the SEC teams have built up the big game reputation that SC has nor do they have the benefit of everyone thinking their talent is far better than any other team. Let's not forget that SC nearly made the NC game last year despite losing AT HOME to stanford.

who edged them out after losing at home to Arky and looked like hell in the SECCG?

I don't think the nation would give you that USC is year in and year out recruiting better than UF, AL, or LSU.

The big game rep I'll grant you, but that pesky off game rep is a bit of a problem. The falloff this year on O, as you readily admit, doesn't mesh well with your argument that they unanimously have the best talent.

USC is the best program out there right now, and he would be crazy to leave it.
that, I agree with. Nipping at his heels are a couple SEC schools and Big 12 schools.

The weakness of the Pac 10 hurts Carroll badly if he's going to keep finding a way to lose to subpar teams each year.

We'll wont see another 2 loss team in the NC game in a long time. If florida doesn't clock OSU in the NC game last year, there is no way LSU makes it over USC. I'm not convinced florida or a one loss bama team would get the nod over SC if they continue to roll.

SC has been top-5 in recruiting for what 6 straight years and #1 overall (or darn close) for what 4 of those? ANd how many #1 draft picks? 3 or 4 every year?

I don't personally think they have the best talent by far as people say, but i am in the minority in that belief.

Most years the pac-10 has had another pretty darn good team. 05 and 08 are the only ones since carroll has been there that there hasn't been a decent #2. And i'd argue not many teams can lose to subpar opposition and win national championships.

but they did and that's the point. The SEC affiliation was all the difference and is likely to remain that way with the conference only having gotten stronger while the Pac 10 regressed.

We'll wait and see what happens this year, but USC doesn't have any games coming that help them like a UF W over Alabama would.

If Alabama wins that game, voila, the SEC is in again and likely gets to play freaking Penn St.

you're talking about the bias then?

Id love pete carroll!!!!But hes not coming! Neither is any pro football coach! The top 3 that are going to be asked first are Butch Davis, Chris Petersen, and Mike Leach. Mike Leach only b/c he beat texas. In my mind if he lost to texas saturday I dont think as many people would be on his nuts right now. If by any chance we did entertain a coach from the NFL, then why not the OC from the patriots Josh McDaniels? They say hes a geneious!!

I think we have as much of a chance for him to come here as Davis. I really would like to hear your thoughts.

1. Carroll has proven all he can in the pac-10, NC, CC, etc.

2. Carroll has a better opportunity at getting to the NC every year, even with one loss, in the SEC than in the pac.

3. RUMOR is that Carroll hates Saban, etc.

4. Carroll definitely hates that with one loss BCS keeps him out of the NC.

5. Carroll has given USC lots, no reason to feel bad about leaving them.

6. Butch Davis has more to prove at UNC, smaller program, he hasn't been there long, etc.

7. Since Davis hasn't been there long, and he's old, it would seem that he would feel obligated to stay there at least a little while longer.

I know that Davis claims he isn't interested; but really, what is he going to say about it now? As Hyams said, "if he says that on 12/2 then it certainly holds more weight".

All I'm suggesting is that if Davis is a possibility, so is every active coach, INCLUDING, Pete Carroll.

California weather, while great, is off-set with its outrageous property taxes, and communism.

:clapping:

whoops, thread already:crazy:

but...until he falls on he's face or usc decides for a change, he's not leaving. I'm not exactly sure how much usc pays him, but I'm sure its enough.

Me either but I would almost be willing to bet the farm that USC would pay him whatever it took to keep him
