Peterman out Broken Thumb (rumor)

So not only does that confirm the CBS report which was reported prior to the hilarious 3 stooges' INT.-BUT-

It also creates some serious concerns about our staff, as in why was he left in the game with a broken thumb? -OR- Why was he in with a non-broken thumb based on his horrific play...

And then it gets even worse for poor Peterman, as in why would he go out on the field with a broken thumb knowing full well he was putting our chances for winning below his own desire to remain the starting qb?

Still speechless over Butch leaving him in. Really can't stand the kid if this is true.

Ridiculous. You don't stay in the game with a possible broken thumb (on your throwing hand as a QB). It is team game. Never unnecessarily compromise the team's ability to win a game for your own personal glory/satisfaction/pleasure. Hollywood BS has seriously effected some of y'alls rationale.

I guess Brett Favre needed you to advise him on that. I watched him play through a season with a broken thumb on his passing hand, or maybe it was a Hollywood movie. It sure looked like the NFL though. The fact of the matter is that he probably didn't realize that his thumb was broken and thought he could shake it off and continue.

This really sort of separates the football junkies versus the partiers. Interception #1 - protection broke down on left side and hit from the back. Any QB would have fumbled.
Interception #2 - tipped straight up in air - lucky break for Florida, not bad pass. Interception #3 - total fluke - won't ever happen again (anybody ever seen it happen before in any game)? Oh, you might throw in what is probably the best defense in the SEC. It certainly ain't Alabama. It appears that Worley may have done better starting but we really don't know that, do we?

I'm not trying to pile on Peterman but interception 2 was a terrible throw. It was a bullet pass into quadruple coverage that hit the linebacker directly in the upper chest and bounced straight up in the air. The linebacker didn't jump in the way of the pass or swat at it, it was thrown directly at him as if Peterman didn't see his bright blue jersey at all.

Prayers up for VOL Nate Peterman who they are sayin broke his thumb yesterday during the game....speedy recovery to him!!! GO VOLS!!!

it seems a real possibility that he did either break or sprain it though how else can you explain that awkward strange int. that looked worse than when tyler bray broke his in the georgia game last year.

Fred White just messaged me and said he has heard the same thing. he has a show on myvlt. so it's out there.

Well that just is another bit of bad luck. Since he's likely out for awhile and Worley sucks we look.like a 3 win team if that now....

Have you ever played sports before? Players play hurt all the time...he probably didnt realize it was broke till after the game.

I've done a complete 180 on this. I was critical of it yesterday, but after thinking about it, I can't fault the kid. He was in the game of his life and under intense pressure. I'm sure he just thought he could gut it out and play through it and didn't realize how bad it was.

sorry but I'm not going to hold judgement on Peterman after one start. To say he's a terrible QB after starting one game is just outlandish. He was throw into the fire and wasn't put in a good situation. I personally hope the kid can recovery and make a contribution to the team wither it's on the sideline or in the huddle.

I agree with the quick judgment part. He's still a FR too in case some have forgotten. Think about him in 2 years with God coaching. Could be a totally different player than what we saw Saturday. Man, we gotta quit throwing our guys under the bus when they fail VN!

I disagree with the "put in a bad situation" part. He had significant PT against AP, WKU & UO. Beating UF is expected for any starting QB at UT. If you plan on playing here to lose for another 9 years straight, then get on a good intramural team instead. We have a good OL and UF has a good defense. The odds were not in our favor to win, bc they are just more talented and deep. But, when you have the reigns for nearly a 1/2 and do nothing but compile a 00.7 QB rating, then you had a big part in creating that bad situation. SEC championships are earned not given.

On a similar note, did anyone watch the CBS replays from behind on that int? There was nobody open where he was throwing in the first place. Pig, I think had very tight double coverage and a couple other blue shirts right there. The odds of an int were probably 90% without the floater!

I think its just as safe to assume with adrenaline, nerves, etc that he didn't know how bad it was. They hit helmets and facemasks with their hands pretty often and qbs are often playing with numb fingers or thumb. What he should have done was grab a ball or a coach with his eye on what was going on should have made him throw a couple. If that happened, I didn't see it.

This is what I meant by "take himself out of the game". Amazing more posters didn't understand that.

If he was in noticeable enough pain for CBS to pick up, whether from a different camera angle or just me looking away, he should have went to the sideline to check it out with the medical staff (if only for a play or two). As the quarterback (default leader of a team), you owe it to your teammates to do so.

It dovetails into the line freeze play - where Florida appeared to jump off side - our oline didn't move. We run a fire drill with our receivers and Peterman throws it up with hopes of a touchdown and a free play.

In this case - the refs appeared to miss the jumping off sides by the Fla. defense - our offense didn't move to protect the qb- Peterman held it for a hair too long - and then he broke his thumb against a Fla. rushers helmet - just like Bray did against Georgia - the ball was up for grabs - Croom had to interfere to keep the ball from being intercepted - and we learned that the "freeze play" may not always work the way it was designed.
