Petrino is gone

Here is his response...

"The simplest response I have is: I'm sorry. These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart. All I have been able to think about is the number of people I've let down by making selfish decisions. I've taken a lot of criticism in the past. Some deserved, some not deserved. This time, I have no one to blame but myself."

Long made the right decision. Period. That's something to be proud of. Upon hearing about the 20k, this seems like more of a no-brainer. Neither you nor I knew about the 20k two hours ago. Relax.

Doing what you are supposed to do is not cause for congrats.

So if you have one player from that Falcons team on your roster who refuses to play for him, you wouldn't even consider it? Seems a little far fetched. What he did was cowardly and unprofessional but the man can call a hell of a game offensively. It would have to be one hell of a player to hold up the entire deal. Probably only a handful of players in the league have that type of approval power.

There were many stories (even before he quit) about how terrible Petrino was at dealing with pro athletes. He ordered them not to talk to each other in the cafeteria, not to address him directly, etc. -- basically he expected to be a dictator in the NFL like he was in college. There was open rebellion on the roster before he quit. (Nobody on the team appeared to be disappointed when he left; they just thought he was a chickenshat for the way he went out.)

Given how poor he was at leading NFL players, it seems like it would be a big risk for a team to take a chance on him regardless of how good a game he calls.

Try being responsible for tens of millions of dollars in revenue for a flagship state university, and then talk to me about right vs. wrong, and easy vs. hard decisions.

It's awfully easy for you to draw conclusions when all of the pertinent information was served up for you in one tidy little press conference.

Good grief the hfc is giving employment to someone based off the fact that she gives him her poon. This isn't rocket science here, Long did what he had to do. Anyone making it more complex than this is giving him way too much credit. He had no choice.

Damn woman have it sooooo easy these days...

Well, if you think it would be easy "servicing" Bobby Petrino for however long she was with him, maybe so... :whistling:

I'd rather clean public toilets. That's just me, though.

I mean, ick.

I have felt since the public statement was released concerning the young female being involved and lied about that firing Petrino was the right thing to do. Arkansas was being made a laughing stock across the country but I must say I'm a little stunned that they followed through and fired his ass since he was so successful after Arky had been so mediocre for so long.

I still don't know about the 20k and knew he was a gonner.

What is the 20k issue?

Petrino is no longer on the Ark website. However, Dorrell still is.

Also, I didn't know Steve Caldwell ended up at Ark.

I assumed he was gone too before hearing of the 20k. That's not my issue. I think it's short sided and just plain ridiculous not to commend somebody for making the right decision. I'm not saying throw Long a parade, but lots of athletic departments incur PR nightmares due to indecisive leadership. Arkansas clearly doesn't have that problem.

Kidding right? :eek:lol:

Soooo... Fulmer to arkansas or too early???

If he's not kidding, at least he nailed "ridiculous." That seemingly puts him ahead of the majority.
It's ridiculous how much spelling credibility people have come to deserve for spelling "ridiculous" correctly.

Swype texting error actually. I'll proof my future posts more carefully if you promise to forget where the quotation key on your keyboard is located. (Unless you plan to use it properly of course)

Some posters here are underestimating the amount of equity Petrino was amassing through results on the field. Hogs were making their best run in 20 years.

You don't easily toss that aside for an uncertain future.

From the modest support from the "save our coach" rally for Petrino
