Peyton breaks TD record

Peyton is the greatest QB to ever play the Game. Even with my Vol Bias Facts are Facts:rock:

HA. I think Super Bowl rings and playoff wins are more important than 4 TD's vs Houston. Peyton is awesome, but don't drop best ever. Montana and Brady might disagree.

Congrats to Peyton on the record. He will go down as the most talented QB to ever play, but not the best. His entire career will be summed up as a kickass regular season QB, but could never get it done 9 times out of 10 in the postseason.

Last time I watched a football game, it was eleven offensive players and eleven defensive players that won or lost a football game for a team. Jim Kelly of the Bills and Fran Tarkenton of the Vikings never won a Super Bowl but are both Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

The problem is that some VN posters just can't be happy that Peyton broke the record. Outside of VN fans, very few NFL experts or HOFer's think Peyton is the best QB ever. Very few. He has to win at least 2 more Super Bowls to be in the discussion. You just can't argue against Montana's stats and what Brady has done to Peyton over the past decade- face to face especially.

The SB rings argument is so stupid. It's shocking how often you hear it regurgitated.

Peyton is the best QB to ever play the game. He seems to also be (and I can't figure out why) one of the most polarizing. So many people bend over backwards to avoid giving him his due that it's just laughable.

Would you say that Troy Aikman (three rings) and Jim Plunkett (two rings) were better quarterbacks than Den Marino (zero rings) and Brett Favre (1 ring)? I remember Aikman doing a lot of handing off to Emmitt and Plunkett mostly handing off to Marcus Allen...I also remember the Raiders defense of Lester Hayes, Mike Haynes, Howie Long, Lyle Alzado, Ted Hendricks, Matt Millen, Rod Martin, Reggie Kinlaw and Van McElroy being mostly responsible for those Raider Super Bowls. Outside of Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis and the brief time Bob Sanders was healthy, Peyton's defense was a bunch of scrubs in Indy. This measurement can't just be about a ring count.

Unfortunately this is a true statement. I hope the Broncs win the SB this year to further establish Peyton's legacy as the most talented ever, but you're right he will never be regarded as the best ever, due to losing too often in the biggest games.

That Peyton, he went out and broke an ALL time NFL offensive record just so all the pundits could reiterate how he is definitely not the greatest QB to play the game. I guess even Eli is a better QB than Peyton cause he has 2 rings.

Those scrubs helped him win his ONLY Super Bowl. Do you remember Manning's stat line? I am sure you conveniently forgot that.

Point is--- Greatness is how you perform versus the BEST. Not how many TD's you throw vs Jacksonville in September. It is how you perform in the big games-PLAYOFFS!!!!!!
Go on and on with excuses- I will just throw the "smack down" facts in your face.

Agree wholeheartedly. Peyton is absolutely the best. He gives credit for his team for wins, and takes more undeserved responsibility for losses.

Peyton is class all the way. So proud that he is a VFL. Has represented UT as well as it could be represented. We have had a lot of great people, led by Peyton and Pat Summitt.

It is much more important how you play versus Jacksonville in September than versus the best teams in the playoffs. I guess Ali should have just fought scrubs in his career so he could have been undefeated. Fact is that Brady has owned Manning and has outperformed him against the best teams. Montana is the GOAT-period.

Arguing with some people is useless, but I would point out that anyone with a hint of good sense would have chosen Peyton as their quarterback if they had the opportunity at any time in his career.

Wonder why? I suggest it is because they know he is the best, and there is not another QB who has, or does, make the players around him better. Check those facts!

Congrats to Manning - one of the greatest of all time.

On the can't win the big one crap; when Denver lost at home to Baltimore all the haters trotted this out but they were silent when New England lost at home the next week to Baltimore. Both Manning and Brady threw INTs at the end though Manning has a slightly better statistical day. One was labeled as "can't' win the big one" while the other was not.

What are you talking about? Absolutely pure opinion. Please go research Joe Montana's playoff career and Super Bowl stats. Then, please name the HOF WR's Brady has had in his career. A washed up Randy Moss. Brady makes the players around him better than Manning. Just look at this year. Edelman, Dobson, Hopkins, Amendola, Houlemamamam(ha)- he has no one and he still beat Manning.

The Colts win over the Bears in Super Bowl 41 was a formality considering that it came against a team with Rex Grossman at quarterback, so I think most people would therefore agree that Indy's biggest win ever was really over the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game on Jan 21, 2007. The Colts won a shootout 38-34 while overcoming a 21-6 Halftime deficit and Manning's stat line was 27-47 for 349 yards and 1 TD with 1 INT. Indy's defense allowed 226 yards passing and 93 yards rushing to the Pats which was better than they usually held up against them but still not great. Also, that was one of the few seasons that Bob Sanders stayed healthy and that did make a difference. Sanders when healthy was one of the best Safeties in the league and was great against the run which was always a problem for Indy and a much bigger reason (along with special teams) that they only have one Super Bowl than any of Peyton Manning's supposed failures.

Now that is a GREAT Post- "ONE" of the greatest. That he is. I appreciate Vol fans who are rational as well. You lost me on the last paragraph though. Brady has 3 SB wins and could have easily had a 4th if it wasn't for Tyree.
