It's such an honor to say University of Tennessee graduate Peyton Manning will probably own most of the single season and career NFL records by QB's by the time he retires.

Pick 6: Some records Manning could set shortly - journalreview.com: Football

Is there any Vol who has done more to shine a bright light on our program than Peyton Manning?

If Butch ever retires I hope Peyton gets a chance to lead the program.

I am already on this subject. He can't own the molst consequetive q.b. starts in history. Favre has that record.

Peyton has been an outstanding ambassador for this program. However, I really don't see him ever having a coaching role here. Just my $0.02.

He's got more money than he'd know what to do with. If I were him, I'd retire from football and spend time with my family. Work is overrated

That's what I'm saying. The man has lived and breathed football his entire life. He already will go down as one of UT's greatest representatives. I feel that once he is out of football he can still continue to contribute and support the program without actually being in charge or having a direct role in the administration.

Don't see him as a coach on any level but I do see him as an NFL owner. Probably working as a commentator for a network that covers NFL games until he can purchase a team.

He will always be associated with football, just not as a coach. I agree.

I could see him more as a GM than a coach. always wonder with these guys how good they would be as a coach. look at jordan. terrible manager. cant spot talent at all lol

I wish his playoff record was as stellar as his regular season record. I would love for Peyton to be a QB coach or OC at Tennessee. Could you imagine him as an OC? The way he dissects defenses, DCs would be wondering how to stop our offense.

I love Peyton, but he has a LONG, LONG way to go to own the most important record- Super Bowl wins. He needs 4 more to have that record all to himself. You can take all the stats in the world in any sport, but championships are the most valuable. If he can stay healthy, he might have a chance.

He definitely needs at least 1 more Super Bowl win. With the offensive weapons he has at Denver, there really shouldn't be any excuse for him not winning another one. I don't see him winning 3 more Super Bowls. He is on the wrong side of age.

I really hate that the win-loss record rests solely on the QB when it's a team sport. You never hear anyone say CP was 5-7 here at UT, he sucked. I get it the QB position is different, Peyton's the leader that's why the wins and losses are his etc etc. But I've seen really "meh" qb's go to the Super Bowl because their TEAM was good. Does that mean he's a better QB than Peyton? Heyall nah. I may have the orange goggles on right now, but when Peyton retires he'll be the best QB that has yet played the game.

Here's an imaginary scenario: Peyton is in the Super Bowl, plays the game of his life - 70% completion, 347yds 5 TD's 0 picks, opposing QB throws for 55% completion 176 yds 2 TD passes 1 INT, but their RB gets like 200 yds rushing. Peyton's team loses cuz his team's D sucks at run D.

Guess who gets the Super Bowl W next to their name? So he's the better QB too right?

It's an imaginary scenario obviously but just to illustrate a point. It's a team game and I just can't judge a QB's success solely on his TEAM'S win/losses

Have you seen the way we talk about and treat our coaches? No way in hell I'd ever want Peyton to coach at UT. He deserves better than that.

I agree with 99% of this. It does suck that those stats fall on a QB and many average to below average QB's have wen to the Super Bowl just because of their team. Look at Trent Dilfer, that 2000 Ravens team would not have won anything without that defense. It sure as hell wasn't because of him. Rex Grossman is in the same boat. Without the Bears D, they never make it to the Super Bowl.

The only thing I disagree with is the best to ever play. I highly doubt anybody will ever match what Montana did. Peyton will be #2 though :)

Exactly. As frustrating as it is to hear the talking heads continue to espouse this false premise, it's really irritating to hear Peyton's so-called supporters parrot it. Wins and championships are TEAM accomplishments. Some of the best QBs to ever play the position NEVER won a championship. It doesn't make them any less great.

Conversely, Mark Rypien, Jeff Hostetler & Trent Dilfer's Super Bowl rings don't automatically vault them ahead of Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton in the opinion of any informed fan.

It's such an obvious point, it's almost embarrassing how many people seem to be confused about it.
