Peyton Manning is #2 on NFL Network's Top 100 Players List

Only the most recent if the kid thinks it means he can get NFL-ready.

The kids in the pipeline these days? Coming to UT because Peyton Manning went there 16 years ago?

Come on.

Manning comes back EVERY year to work with the QBs and WRs. I'd have to say that is a huge draw for any kid.

Why is Lawgator trolling this thread?

These guys were Vols, they are voted as one of the tops in the NFL. Vol fans are celebrating it. I don't think a gator fan has any say in what we do on a Vol board.

7. Trolls. Fans of other teams can add a unique perspective are always welcome here. However, keep in mind that this is a Tennessee board and those who support other schools should be respectful of the Tennessee program and fans. Fans of other programs who join with the purpose of mocking Tennessee will be banned.

I believe the second sentence applies to you right now.

I really don't understand rival people coming on here and being douches. We know what we are and we know that we suck, why kick us while we're down. Do u get satisfaction from it? Cause if you do I have to say you must have a sad ,sad life sir.

I really thought you were smarter than this. I guess not.

To have Peyton Manning come back to Tenn in the off season to talk and teach some of these kids is not a big draw for recruits, really Law?

So not only are you living in the past and depending on current accomplishments of former UT players to beat your chest about UT football, when called out on how silly it is, your butthurt reply is to criticize a rival for what a former player of theirs has done?

80's Hot Tub Time Machine called. It wants its plot back.

I'm joking. You're serious... There's a difference. Here we go...

Peyton played at Tennessee 16 years ago, but he played at Tennessee, it is still Tennessee football discussion. The NFL board is for general NFL discussion, we aren't going to make a thread about Tim Tebow on the Vols Football forum, because he didn't play here. However, if we are referring to former players at the next level, I don't see how that doesn't belong.
Hell, by your logic, we can't even talk about them here once they declare for the draft, because they no longer play here.

Therein lies the problem...

Rigorous enforcement of the third sentence would result in the suspension of at least half, and perhaps as much as eighty percent, of rival fans. Initial intent, however, is unprovable, which is implied by reference to "[joining] with the purpose of mocking Tennessee." A more straightforward solution, albeit a Draconian one, would be to revise the policy to state that "Fans of other programs who, through their comments, mock or are otherwise disrespectful toward Tennessee will be banned." It usually is not hard to distinguish between remarks that fall within the bounds of respectful debate and those which are incendiary or intended to belittle, taunt, or mock.

the best player, regardless of position, is megatron.

i know it's not the most position on the field or the most valuable to his team.

I really doubt that. Find me three recruits since 2007 who say they came here because PM played here, and I'll be happy to reconsider.

As is, the thread reads like a self-congratulatory note you've written to yourselves to try to bridge the gap between what once was, versus what now is.

Honestly, do you not think UT fans over the last few years have pretty much cornered the market on living in the past?

I don't think it disrespectful to point out that among your many great legions of fans you have a segment that insists on overlooking the current state of affairs now because it used to be better.

There are plenty of UT fans who feel the same way I do. So instead of chastising me for pointing out that you got people stuck on the glory days, maybe you'd be better off insisting on a better product so you didn't have to.

I came to the UT football forum to read something about UT football, and first thread I see is about players who are not playing for UT.

Like when I watch the news..the first thing I see is about players not playing for Florida being arrested (typical) for murder.

Dont be butthurt that no one wants to go to a Tebow QB camp. No one wants to learn to fail at a professional level.

I don't care. I mean, I wish him well and all.

But as a college football fan I'm paying attention to the players on the team. In college. Right now.

Insisting on a better product would solve the problem? That was simple enough. I can't believe we didn't think of it before. :)

And it's different for a UT fan to question the significance of Peyton Manning's relevance to the program than it is for a Gator fan to sneeringly do so. But I'm certain you know this already.

Shouldn't this thread be in the NFL forum?

These are all NFL players now.

You a mod now, lawgator? :)

Then I assume this thread probably won't be of any further interest to you.

Good to see you, Freak. I will read your intervention as a friendly nudge.

In the meantime, yeah, I get what you mean that its not a matter of just wishing it got better. But having lived through a LOT of crappy product at UF, I think I can honestly say that the fans, as a group, complaining and whining and voting with their feet makes a difference. It gets attention.

Its no fun to be doing it. For one thing, if you are, it means the team sux. And its not as if one person makes a difference on their own. But when a collective sense of exasperation is there, well, gone are the days of hiring questionable guys like Kiffin, or well meaning but over their heads guys like Dooley.

You get the administration to go out and spend the $6 mill/yr it takes to get the hottest commodity there is and you back him up with a star-studded coordinator and recruiting class.

You don't go from 3 star average to 5 star over night. But you can't keep hiring relative unknowns over and over, hoping for lightning to strike, and things just suddenly coming together.

So when I see the first thread when I go to the football forum YET ANOTHER testament to how great UT is based on a guy who has not put on the uniform in literally a decade and a half, I roll my eyes.

And as you say, I'm sure you already knew that, right?

:)

I'd say we've cornered the market in looking to the future. No matter what has transpired in the past few years, I and most Vol fans know we will take our rightful spot amongst the elite teams in the country once again.

As for the remark about finding 3 recruits since '07. I'd say any recruit that comes to UT has the image of Manning on a ladder, leading the Pride in his head when he signs those papers.

You're kidding, right? The kids coming on campus this Fall were born in 1995. They would have been 2 when Manning did that.

The 4 star or 5 star kid coming on a visit right now has one overwhelming question -- can you get me in the NFL?

All the big schools have kids in the NFL. If he visits Alabama and they've got the photo of a first or second round pick on the wall from last year, and you are telling him to look at a photo of Manning on a ladder, taken with a Nikon Coolpix 3 megapixel camera, it might as well be Barney hammering out with a chisel on a slab.
