Peyton Manning Reportedly Out Indefinitely

VFJ honestly thinks:

Colts with Kerry Collins: 8-8 division champions
Healthy Titans: 5-11

This is going to be so much fun to revisit in a few months.

I can't wait. The Colts should not win the div at 8-8, but if Houston slips as they usually do who knows. Even minus Peyton the Colts still have more talent than the Titans

You'd know the feeling if you probably weren't a bandwagoner.

I understand some of you are slow, I will be a Colts fan with or without Peyton. 16-0 or 0-16. Either way I am a Colts fan. Not sure how many times I have to say that.

By the way when did you become a Heat fan?

When everyone in America decided that LeBron James was a terrible person for wanting to be successful. For me, they are just too easy to cheer for since everyone else hates them for terrible reasons.

The Heat aren't "My Team," but that's the NBA team that I'm cheering for. When someone talks to me about sports, I don't even think of the Heat, much less the NBA.

BTW, glad that you're a real Colts fan. Too bad you will be grouped into the bandwagoners category as long as Peyton's in Indy.

I'll give you receivers/tight ends and your defensive ends but I really don't see that much of a separation at the other position groups.

So you are saying those positions are better than the Titans and the others a wash? So by your own statement you are saying the same thing I did.

My theory is that the connection to a team is much stronger than a connection to a specific player. Could be a numbers/volume thing maybe. I'd say that a Titans fan is more passionate about the Titans than a Manning fans is about the Colts.

Interesting theory. If it holds water, I must be the exception. I'm fanatical about the the Vols, BYU Cougars, Atlanta Braves, Real Salt Lake, and Utah Jazz, regardless of personnel. That being said, I'm more passionate about Peyton Manning winning than any of those teams, other than the Vols. I doubt there are many Titans fans more passionate than me about the Colts. It's a little unhealthy, and weird, but that's how I am.

Why are there three friggin' threads devoted to the same topic in the Vols football forum? This is an NFL discussion.

NM, moved to the NFL forum. LOL

Now we have three or four threads in the NFL forum devoted to the same topic.

I am and it is very unhealthy. I moved to TN from Houston the same year the Oilers did. Ever since then I have said that we were meant to be together.

:eek:lol:

Colts - Peyton = NO SHOT of a .500+ record.

Titans > Colts in that scenario.

Where? Is it Joseph Addai over Chris Johnson? Is it the offensive line? Rookie Castonzo over Michael Roos? Is it the defenses? Or are you just talking about a couple defensive ends who don't make your defense any better than terrible?

Maybe it's Wayne, Collie, and Clark over your receivers and TEs? Or maybe Saturday over whoever your center is. Freeney and Mathis over your DEs. Adam V over Bironas. Bethea and Bullitt over your S. With or without Peyton I will take the Colts over the Titans any day.

You'll find out how much Manning enhanced the WR/TE corps and masked the Colts' overall deficiencies soon enough. We'll see how good the defense is when the offense can't put a drive together and can't stay on the field.

Don't be shocked.

I don't think you understand the concept of receivers depending on the throws they get, no matter how good they are. Larry Fitz is much better than any wideout on either team and he was nothing special with a crappy QB. Likewise, if your overall line isn't any good what the hell does a center matter? If we're doing individuals, Jake Scott and David Stewart are also much better than Diem and Linkenbach on the right side.

Vinatieri over Bironas gave me a good chuckle though. Thanks for that.

He did enhance them, no doubt but these guys are not garbage players. These guys are very good. You all act like now Peyton's out this team will go 1-15. Hell hearing you all the Colts could not beat Vandy without Peyton. Not to mention you have Hasselback, it's not like he is Dan Marino

In before VFJ tries to tell me how Reggie Wayne is better than Larry Fitzgerald based on yardage numbers.

Only one of these have any shot at the HOF, you want to guess which one?

No one has said those guys are garbage players. You're over here trying to talk up Pierre Garcon. You just apparently don't realize that your team has had more than a few fairly large deficiencies for years now that teams without an incredible QB wouldn't be able to get away with. Except you used it as an argument in the Peyton vs. Brady debate, so I'm trying to figure out why you're talking out of both sides of your mouth aside from just being hopeful.

And he's still an easy upgrade over Kerry Collins. That should tell you something.

I think Peyton is the best player in the league, he is the most valuable player in the league. But this team has not won every game they have over the years just because of Peyton. This team has other great players. Are there some holes? Yes, what NFL team especially in the AFC South does not have holes? Should this team win the division? No. But the Titans and Texans finished 6-10 and the Jags finished 8-8 and probably got worse. So no team scares me in the division. The Texans should win it fairly easily but they always under achieve. And I think the Titans and Jags are bad teams.

Great point. When Manning threw for 49 TD's, the team still struggled because they were scoring too quickly and it was difficult for the D to be on the field for so much of the game. Manning distanced himself as the best game-manager in the league after that. They designed drives to chew up clock, and for like 3 straight seasons they had more TD's than punts.

I'm really curious to see what the dropoff is with Collins.

Most accurate predictors out there give the Colts a 10% chance of making the playoffs if Peyton does not play this season. He needs to be back by week five for Indy to have a prayer, and that just went out the window.
