Just seeing the play of the first time I have to admit the pass does seem to traveling behind.

That was backward, but the NFL should leave it as is. Manning would have stayed in the game long enough to break the record had that play been ruled correctly on the field. The record is significant, and the NFL should let it stand.

The TD record is more impressive. Though neither really matters if he doesn't win the SB.

Leave it alone, NFL stat nerds. Clearly, had Peyton's last pass gone for a 4 yard TD instead of 5, he would have come out in the 3rd quarter to complete one more pass and secure the record. The Broncos operated under the stats they were given without knowledge that some irrelevant play would be reviewed. Funny enough, I was thinking during the game he should come back in for a play and throw for a short pass as beating the record by only one yard is risky, if you want the record. For all you fantasy players out there, you know what I'm talking about- stats often get adjusted by a yard or two here and there, and in this case, it would be quite an injustice as we are talking about all time football history and it's a given he'd have come out to break the record in the second half if they had thought he needed to. Serve justice, and give the man his due.

If he had been officially one yard behind Brees at the end of the half...no way he plays a down in the second...by Peyton's decision...this is a nice hood ornament that's all...if the NFL geeks want to Zapruder it...Peyton won't sweat it...suggest we follow suit

It looks like a lateral to me.

And I actually thought that during the game.

Oh well. Peyton won't care either way.

I didn't have a problem with him sitting the second half when they had secured the victory. But it's gonna totally suck if he loses the record as a result.

I agree resting all of your starters for a whole game is silly. This has backfired many times.. It's a tough call though, it would suck if you lost your starting QB in a meaningless game. Guess that's why they pay the HC millions a year to make these decisions :)

I can kinda see it both ways. Just always seem to hurt the Colts when Dungy sat everybody the last game or 2 of the year when they had it clinched.

Plus, anymore it seems like the team that wins the SuperBowl is not the team with the best record....it's the team playing with the greatest momentum heading into the playoffs. I think I'd play my starters, maybe let em rest the 4th qtr of the last game. They're about up have nearly 2 full weeks before they play another game anyway.

Peyton must be on pins and needles this morning.

I don't think Peyton is as worried about it as we are her on VN, he'd be happy he got that record as well but today he's more concerned with who they play in the second round and preparing for it.

Sucks that Manning and Fox were classy enough not to keep Peyton in to obliterate the record and run up the score on a hapless team. Lesson learned. Patriots that batch up. Keep Manning in the entire time even when you're up by 50 points. Let him throw for 500 yards so that the recrod would never even be sniffed again. Good call NFL.

I agree... watching the game I even said to my buddy, I hope he lets Peyton come out in 2nd half and throw for 10 yards just to make sure.... I understand why he didn't but still..

Lateral. They should have given Peyton at least 2 series in 2nd half to civet all based. And yes, I thought this at the time. Especially when u consider he broke it by only a yard.

As pointed out earlier the relevancy of arguing a yard with a QB that sat the whole 2nd half is absurd on it's face. It was an act of mercy that kept Manning from another couple hundred yards and another TD or two. If that was the last play of the game and where the record was set it'd be a more interesting conversation...as it is now it's just laughable.

If it is eventually ruled a lateral, at least Drew Brees is a class act. Manning and Brees are two of the real good guys.
