Peyton's Status in Indy

It takes a lot of time to get the remaining pieces of a team that is treating their best player like absolute sh*t after a 2-14 season just indicated that they can't win without him.

I hate to say it, but if the Colts toss Manning, they won't be relevant for another ten years.

I don't see where they are treating him badly. They just paid him $26 million when they knew he would not take a snap this past season. If that is treating him badly, then I volunteer to be treated like s**t also.

If Luck is what most think he is then true there will be a rebuilding process, but with Harbaugh in SF we have seen the difference a great coach can make.

The Colts are a long time NFL franchise that claimed championships long before Peyton ever saw the light of day. Sure, it will hurt a little at first if Peyton leaves, but to suggest it will be a hardship to Irsay is ridiculous.

Yeah, the team was called the Baltimore Colts then, and the championships weren't called Super Bowls.

Coming out in public to blast comments because they were made in public is a massively hypocritical move. Irsay's treating Peyton like garbage in public, which is hilarious considering the Colts would be worthless without him.

It's also debatable that they didn't know he would play a snap this season.

I don't agree he blasted him, he said he should have kept it in house.

It's not debatable.

merge?

Trying to figure out which Peyton thread to post in is difficult... just moved the other one to NCAA.

Maybe you guys could leave a link behind since, like Fulmer, Peyton is not considered UT football.

It's hard to recognize such a successful winning tradition when we're so busy losing and rebuilding.

I wonder if merging all of the Peyton stuff would give PM more posts on VN than Bryce Brown had.

It seems that would be more a more appropriate reality.

This is going to become a topic for VNers who remember the years when Vols were champions.

Manning/Irsay statement: We had a long talk today and we want to assure Colts fans everywhere that we are both committed to maintaining our close relationship and to working together through any challenges the future may bring.

Does it matter none of you people cared about the colts before petyon got their. And if he is healthy he will play for some nfl team.I am glad that peyton has done well in his years at indy but the only time i pulled for them was in the superbowl.

I would love to see Peyton sign with Houston...he could stick it to Irsay 2 times a season

Just because a team has a lot of offensive weapons doesn't mean they're pining for manning or that they're his most likely landing spot either

I heard Manning is willing to agree to an incentive based contract. I imagine he is doing this so he can get Reggie Wayne to accompany him wherever he goes.

Irsay is putting it all on Peyton...if he wants to stay, Irsay says he is fine with having Peyton lead the team next year. That being said, Irsay also said that he wants to discuss contract options with Peyton.

I take that to mean several things....restructure to take less money, deferred dollars, and likely heavily performance based. Irsay will test Peyton's heart/passion for the Colts.

Irsay appears to be a bright, savey man....put the ball in Peyton's hands....show the Colts you really want to retire here...or leave for greener ($$) pastures.

If I were Peyton, before I even talk about staying in Indy, I ensure that they aren't taking Luck. From Manning's perspective, Indy choosing Luck means they are rebuilding and their goal isn't to squeeze out another SB run. If I'm Manning, I'm going to a team who wants seriously to win right now.

If they are taking Luck, all negotiations are a waste, IMO.

No other way to let this play out then to let Peyton go and I hate actually having to say that. Keeping both, unless Peyton renegotiates his deal (which I am not sure is even possible) would put this team in salary cap hell. They would not be able to bring Wayne and Mathis back, maybe not even one of them.

Posturing. He'll welcome him back.....as long as Manning understands they are rebuilding and he needs to take a major pay cut.

Manning should take a major pay cut, if he leaves I guarantee he will not get paid $28 mil for one year.

And just for the hell of it...say the Colts trade down instead of taking Luck, who would y'all see as the best pick to make them a contender in 2012?

And hypothetical situation.....what if the Colts trade down twice? Say they trade away the first overall and end up with the 4th overall and a 2nd round pick, too. Luck goes #1....if Rams and Vikings don't take RGIII, Colts could probably trade down again and get a #6 overall and a 3rd round pick.

If you're Irsay do you go with Luck no matter what? I mean, if this is a possible hypothetical you could be giving up Manning, a #8 pick, a #36 pick, and a #70 pick all for one rookie.

I don't count rookies as being able to make a team a contender.

I say they have to take Luck no matter what. By all accounts he is the next Peyton or Elway. You can't pass on him and keep a 36 year old coming off 3 neck surgeries.

Yeah this recent part is all just PR

Despite everything pointing to the colts having already made up their minds, irsay is (just) trying to at least appear like he put the ball in manning's court...or simply trying to make it look to average joe fan that if they do part ways, it's manning's fault / he's the "bad guy" here

...and why exactly would the rams and Vikings even be considering RG3?

They both have their QB of the futures; that's an area of least concern
