Pittman taking a shot at our Vols? Slaughter and Nichols named as captains for Saturday

Hooker talked to Jacob Warren the other day about this. Warren said nobody had an issue with players leaving for playing time. He did have an issue with a certain LBer who left for Bama. He wouldn't even say his name.
The last memory that dude has of this place is that field being mobbed by cheering fans clad in orange. Bizness was handled.

I don't see Heupel doing anything like that.
I wouldn’t have an issue if he did, but maybe I’m missing something. I see it more about him doing it for his players as something special for them, as Heupel’s players did a couple weeks ago by giving him a game ball at Oklahoma. (I know, different circumstances)

I just don’t see Pittman as the type to take shots or troll, but even if it’s an attempt to play head games, more power to him. Play every card you can, especially when you’ve got the hand he’s got.

Missed a couple games

During his senior season, Slaughter totaled 32 tackles, one sack and one pass deflection. The physical corner earned a 56.0 PFF grade in 387 snaps during the 2023 season.

Over the course of his career, Slaughter recorded 87 tackles, seven pass deflections, three sacks and one interception. Slaughter’s junior season was his most productive in Knoxville as he put up career-numbers and earned a 71.4 PFF grade in 486 snaps.
Didn’t he play safety in his junior season when he was productive? I always thought he was more of a safety than a corner but maybe l am mistaken. Slaighter had a couple of boneheaded penalties in that AR v OK St game.

I pretty much agree with this. That one LB that left us, maybe he needed to leave, in the wake of the Pruitt scandal, but go to Bama??? Then smoke a cigar after a win? But not have the decency to congratulate old teammates after a loss??? Pfft.

Meanwhile, don't know if D. Slaughter was encouraged to leave or not, but I do have good memories of him knocking the crap out of opponents when he was wearing our orange. Other than this weekend, I wish him well.
his hit against Kentucky where he drilled the receiver and knocked the ball loose to Mitchell was a thing of beauty.

Mostly corner but he did make a couple starts a safety, Bama and UT Martin

Best known for this hit on UK receiver that Mitchell picked.

We owe them three beat downs, hang 70 on them if u can, and if they can't stop u, keep running up the score, and when u shake hands stay silent

I think most players prob glad to see each other...just my opinion. Portal is so common now for players. Players understand guys either go where they can play or go where they can get paid. At least JH has developed a culture where players don't leave because of the bad experience (Jones/Pruitt)...even most of the guys that have left had positive things to say about their time at UT.
The Vol players will be happy to see the 2 before and after the game. A lot of these players know each other from recruiting trips, camps, and playing against each other in high school. Most of them don't hate each other like us fans do.

I love it! When our players meet them at the 50 yd line they can look them in the eyes and say, "It sure feels good to be #4, how are y'all doing?"

Wasn’t Slaughter a starter last year? I seem to remember he had some really nice take downs but got torched a lot.
I didn't think so honestly. I really don't remember him being much of a contributor. He seems to have left because he was passed by other players and buried.

Doesn't That LB start for the Texans now?

Agree. Players transferring for playing time/more money is just part of the business now. Slaughter and Nichols were not going to start for UT this year and they were looking for an opportunity.

I don't think anyone on UT roster cares. Arky is simply the next team on the schedule for UT's opportunity to compete up to UT's standards .

Exactly. I think I remember reading somewhere that a reporter had asked Sampson if he still talks to Slaughter and he was basically like "no, not since he left". This team cares about one another, they aren't concerned about outside noise. If this is a dig by Pittman, he'll likely regret it.

The Nichols kid is puzzling to me. I’ve always heard he grew up a die hard Vol. Bleeding orange and white. So he’s second or third string on the team he grew up loving with little chance of making it to the NFL. If he’s second or third string and can’t move up the depth chart on the team he supposedly loves, why would he or anyone else believe going to another school with less talent and becoming a starter make them more capable of making it to the NFL. In their minds, is starting for a less talented team going to supposedly make them better?

If I was Nichols, I would’ve stuck around with the Vols and tried to climb to the top to play for the team I love.

Slaughter, I’ve never heard that he grew up bleeding orange and white so….it is what it is.

How about playing time, having tape of him playing consistently for scouts, new coaching, and being able to play the game he loves because he couldn’t at his dream school?

I think fans make a bigger deal out of this than the players do. If one of my teammates wasn't getting any playing time and thought he had a better chance elsewhere, I would not begrudge him for it. If things worked out for him after the transfer, I'd be glad for him. If he gets some recognition that he would not have gotten at UT, good for him.

But I'd still kick his butt in the game.
