Pittsburgh Steelers Thread

i don't know if he's a legend or not, but he's a gamer. i think he really wanted to win the MVP, but i think he solidified himself in this league, as a qb that should be mentioned with the top qb's in the league.

in a profession that judges you, specifically this position, by wins and losses, if not more so, at least equally, as stats, he fits in that discussion simply because he's a winner. and two rings put you in the discussion at least.

i watch Ben play and i just can't help but think somewhere John Elway and Fran Tarkenton smile while watching him do what he does.

Yeah Jake i guess it so hard for me i started watching steelers alot early 80s wasnt old enough to enjoy the glory days. i started with tom Selleck at qb then went to Bubby(BTW loved the guy),Kordell,Graham,Neil,Tommy and so many times watching these guys play so well in regular season and never get it done in the playoffs. Ben first year he played bad in first playoff game that we should have lost to the Jets, then played bad against the pats. I was like here we go again, until Second year when he played lights out every game but Superbowl. I call the next year the lame duck year coach was lame duck Ben was hurt and we played bad all year. last year he played great got screwed on a non holding call against Jags. Then this year was great again. I mean 18 Game winning drives in 4 years is unreal. He doesnt have the weapons Montana,Young,Peyton had Brady done it like Ben did he just carried them on his back. He is such a gamer your right about that also he does remind me off John Elway just seems to love the spotlight when he needs to do it he does it.

before the Superbowl They ask Dilfer and Young was he in Peyton and Brady elite status both said no. After the game Steve said he grew like 5 times right in front of his eyes and he was blowed away with how he did it, also later said Ben was right there with the big 2. Dilfer also said he was in that group, My personal thought is Peyton and Tom are both going to go down in the top 7 all time as QB's and i think if Ben continues he will be right there with them. He is 26 Holmes,Miller,Nate, and heath are all young and so is the D. If we can kep this core group together I think the big 3 will be battling for SuperBowl for a while. I also think Limas will turn into a big time player in a few years.

well, he's in pretty elite company as one of a very select few qb's with multiple titles.

Well another year coming. Reigning super bowl champions. How do the Steelers do this year. Personally I think they make it to the AFC championship game. Toss up as to what they do there. Could possibly make it to another Super Bowl. They have another loaded team again.

Go Steelers....Pre-Season football starts tonight. I can't wait!!

pats are the favs sorry

actually - and honestly - i think you should be concerned about baltimore in season. that's a team that lost to you by only 3 points each time, but managed to pretty much keep their entire defense back intact, got a decent qb - which would have been honestly moot imo if mason didn't come back, but he did - and improved on special teams, especially the kick return game...and field position and special teams is the x-factor in close games like that.

Unfortunately I say this b/c they worked on improving and the steelers pretty much just stayed the same or lost people in the offseason. They would not have needed to improve too much to make up a 3 point difference, and i think they very well may have done so

From what I have heard big Roth has shown up overweight and out of shape. Have you heard anything about this and if so what are your thoughts?

Yeah, Joe Flacco is certainly a HOF QB. And the Steelers only beat them 3 times. And the Steelers lost one DB and their #3 WR. Massive loss of talent there.

i didn't say there was a massive talent loss. But of two teams where one beat the other by only 3-4 points the two times (I'm not counting the playoff game though because the injuries before that game were ridiculous, look at the pregame - it was one of the few times the neutral fans knew the game was decided a week beforehand because the injury report was so long)....but anyways, of two teams that were only separated by 3-4 points, one stayed the same and the other got it's players back and got better in other areas. It doesn't take that much improvement to make up a 3 points difference in teams honestly.

And i never implied or called Flacco HOF; he's far from it...but he should be a little better nonetheless

The Steelers lost their #1 draft pick Mendenhall for the season in first the Ravens game. Sepulveda missed the entire season and was replaced by a couple very mediocore journeyman punters. Having those 2 players back this season will have a huge impact for Pittsburgh.

I've not heard anything on Big Ben. Last night, he sure didnt seem to be out of shape when he eluded three tackles in the endzone to prevent a saftey. Does what Big Ben always does...buys time, and makes plays. While the offense wasnt very impressive last night, I was amazing at Limas Sweed. He is going to be a HUGE player for the Steelers this year.

Pitt owns Bal . Parker and Mendenhall will Both be healthy and the Steelers did'nt lose any key personell to FA . I think repeats with a win over Dallas in the show

I wouldn't bank too much as a punter being that much of a difference, and so far all the word from steelers camp is that mendenhall isn't playing like they were hoping he would....pretty much you are fielding the same team though - unless Sweed turns into the big playmaker you hope he will - however in your case that's not a terrible thing.

The only reason I brought up the injury thing is if you look at that last game, the steelers had two probable players who both ended up playing; the ravens had 12 starters who either didn't play or couldn't practice all week (and several got hurt again in game). They were ridiculously beat up; especially for that late in the season...

Now the steelers would have still won that game regardless, b/c they either played a baltimore team that was ridiculously beaten up (pitt was still better then, but the injuries really contributed to the score margin) or a titans team that had lost its main player- johnson - to injury and could not move the ball on offense more than 5 feet at that point.

Anyways, back on topic, you guys are pretty much fielding the exact same team (unless sweed really shoots up) and your division rival that only lost in season by 3-4 points worked to make it self, well, a few points better. Honestly, I see Pitt and Balt splitting their series 1-1 this season.

Good luck with that pick there. You're going to be a little off....or a lot

and noone really owns anyone in this case where the games are close and you're winning by a few points.....own is what UT has had to watch UF do to them the last few years or OSU has done to michigan

Did Ben get hurt ?

no, Showed up to camp/preseason heavy, possibly somewhat out of shape...meaning he possibly spent more time partying rather than getting ready for the season like he was paid to do

EDIT: I see you're talking about today, sorry. Story said that Ben was carted off the practice field today after injurying his right foot in the last half hour of practice. Steelers aren't saying anything on the injury other than that he didn't rupture his achilles tendon and more tests needed to be done

Did you see berger punt last season ? Obviously not . The punter will make a huge dif . Parker and Mendenhall both healthy , the same #1 Def and a team thats won two Superbowls in 4 years . Steelernation on the rise again .

I still just dont think that a punter completely out-weighs all the improvements the other team made. Now Parker's healthy is better (i think....that's debatable about how much better he'll he'll be; i've heard back and forth all offseason from analysts)

but the steelers coaches have said this offseason - to the media in fact - that mendenhall has not lived up to the expectations they had at all when they drafted him...now unless that bar's up at expecting him to be the holy union of barry sanders and emmitt smith...that doesn't really sound like a good thing
