Playoff game in Neyland questions/thoughts

Ultimately we have to pass OSU to host. Which I don’t see the committee jumping us over them. Think we should but don’t see it.

I don’t see us jumping Georgia if they lose the SEC either. Don’t see how you can punish Georgia for making the championship game. Especially when they beat us
I think this is pretty much dead on. For Tennessee to host, they need to be ranked ahead of either OSU or UGA. We’ll find out the OSU part of the equation on Tuesday. If they’re ahead of TN, then that obviously kills any chance of TN finishing ranked ahead of them. Then it would depend on if the committee punishes UGA for losing to TX.

Pulled this below from a NYTimes article on Penn State playoff ticket communication to season ticket holders. Read in a few articles the face value from $100 - $250 set by CFP but I don't know if host schools can flex on pricing. I would doubt it but don't know. If we host, secondary market should be very expensive.

"The rollout of ticketing procedures is one of many steps for all potential host sites in the first year of the 12-team Playoff. The CFP released an 87-page manual to schools in August to prepare for hosting a game that will either fall on Friday, Dec. 20, or Saturday, Dec. 21. The determination of which game is played Friday night versus who plays in the first-round triple-header on Saturday will be made by television.

Ticket prices for the first-round games held on college campuses were set by the CFP. Pricing is unified across the country, with different price points for seats along the lower bowl sideline, lower bowl end zones, upper bowl, suites and student section, among others. General seating prices — not including clubs and suites — will range from $100 to $250. The deadline for season ticket holders to reserve seats for a potential Playoff game is 11:59 p.m. ET Friday, Nov. 22.

The four first-round byes in the Playoff are reserved for the highest-ranked conference champions. First-round home games go to the next four highest-ranked teams. In the latest CFP rankings revealed Tuesday, sixth-seeded Penn State would be hosting No. 11 Ole Miss. Though Penn State won’t know for sure whether it’s hosting until Dec. 8 when the bracket is released, the university has long prepared for the possibility. Last spring, Penn State moved winter graduation from Dec. 21 to the following Sunday. Attempting to host a Playoff game in Beaver Stadium while holding graduation across the parking lot in the Bryce Jordan Center was not possible.

GO DEEPER
How exactly will College Football Playoff home games work?

Student tickets are not available yet, but Penn State does plan to have the same number of student tickets available (21,000) as offered during the regular season, deputy athletic director Vinnie James said in an interview with The Athletic.

Penn State athletics has worked with the student government to determine how to best handle the ticket process for students. This procedure will be communicated to students in the coming weeks. Student tickets cost $25.
Good info.

I think most folks on here might be making a mistake thinking that Ohio State won’t fall to number 9 or 10 or so. That was a horrific loss today. Horrific. And this committee has dropped every single team with a loss to lower ranked team with a minimum of six spots. I think they drop them seven spots- or more.

They didn’t lose to a playoff contender today. They lost to a team ranked number 50. A 20 point underdog. At home. Let that sink in for a minute.
I agree with everything you said. The only problem with that argument is that it is Ohio State who will get favorable treatment.

Miami and OSU should both fall below us. Good chance we end up 6th. Teams 1-4 get byes, 5-8 host.
Miami’s loss has no impact on Tennessee. They’ll just be replaced in the top four by SMU. The only question is what will the committee do with Ohio State. They should fall behind us, but I have my doubts.

They lost to a 20 point dog at home. Should be no higher than 10. The committee said the wouldn't punish conference championship losers but they should fall in the rankings. SEC, Big Ten, ACC CC's are in with byes and most likely Boise with Big 12 Champion at 12. Hoping Penn State gets beaten bad, and Georgia loses. That should knock all the CC losers below us. Oregon, Texas, ACC Champ, Boise in the top four, Notre Dame at 5, we're at 6. If Georgia or Penn State win, 7, and if the both win 8.

Dinich just released her prediction on SEC football final. She has OSU at 8 and UT at 9.

UT playing at Ohio State. I suspect that’s exactly what happens.

IMO, #7 is pretty much a foregone conclusion unless someone jumps us. Clemson is done with their loss to USCjr. That's different than saying we'll host...that question is up in the air.
Clemson is not done. All they have to do is beat SMU next week and they are in and jump us. I think 8th is probably our ceiling, and that would require us jumping Ohio State.

This is most likely imo. I don’t see Ohio State falling all the way from 2nd to 9th. One of their losses is to the undefeated # 1 team by 1 point in Oregon. That’s a much better loss than either of ours.

No, you have to go for that, but run a better play.

He still has plenty of time. And even if he scores there he still needs a fg. If your offense that hasn't done anything really all night don't score the game is over then. Terrible call

You're at the 1 foot line, score and you can kick a FG from the 35ish later. Or you can kick a FG from the 1 foot line and try for a hail mary later. If you can't score from 1 foot out you don't deserve to win anyways.

Blah blah blah blah blah. You kick a FG and after that punt block you have some momentum and your defense has held Texas to 0 second half points. Bad call to end the game at that point of the game

Miami losing doesn’t help or hurt us I don’t think. Our only hope to host is them dropping OSU below us. But I kinda like your thinking and I agree.

Ohio state losing is what gives us a chance. But will the committee actually rank us accordingly? I have doubts lol
Sadly, they wont.

I know it is not going to happen but if I were the selection committee I would just drop OSU straight out of top 12 because they don't give a crap about CFP. That team's sole goal for the entire season was to beat Michigan. They just lost that game and their entire team + fanbase is pissed, and fanbase is calling for Ryan Day's head.

Their whole attitude now is something like this: FML we just lost to this f***ing p***poor Michigan team for the 4th time in a row. I don't care if we end up winning the natty it wont change the fact this season is still a failure. The playoff is meaningless and if we get to host an SEC team I think we will beat them because they cannot handle the cold, but this season still sucks and FML.

I wish whichever SEC team playing them beat the crap out of these entitled assholes. Any 2-loss or even 3-loss SEC team is more deserving a spot than OSU.

Yep, she is a B1G grad from Indiana University and a DEI hire to keep the committee woke. Thats just the world we live in we will just have to try to win on the road. I have already accepted it. UGA & Texas will get protected by Sankey etal. that's about all they can do; UT will be on the road as the orange headed stepchild. 🤣

That hate is real. A few extra dollars won't sway that type of hate. Did u see how their game ended
Bro that media money is there regardless. A Michigan man isn't helping OSU do anything not even for the conference

I’ve been back and forth on this. Manuel can still keep OSU in but drop them the max amount possible as a final shiv in the back.

To avoid the appearance of bias however,, I expect them to move them the average of how far down they have moved other top 10 teams that lost to unranked opponents. I have that average at six spots.

Dropping them to #8 would ostensibly be two spots below us with SMU being #7. I don’t see much justification in the committee only dropping them four spots to #6 and putting us at #7.

My best guess is we go to (ranking/seed) 6/8, OSU drops to 7/9.
