Please DON'T start Nico [Nico merged]

Milton IS the biggest issue. It all begins and ends with him. With Hooker we’re 3-0 easy.

Milton is a serviceable QB. His numbers aren’t terrible. So those who support him are right in a sense. The problem is he MISSES OBVIOUS and developing opportunities bc he can’t process situations fast enough in live game action. Creating those mismatches and split second opportunities is what Heupel’s O is all about. Take that away and we’re DOA.

Milton has to be benched. Nico has to start. NEXT GAME. Or we give up 60% of our O going into the heart of our SEC schedule including our fast tempo advantage before the opening KO.

If Saban can start skinny mini Bryce Young in prime time as a Frosh and DOMINATE what’s our excuse?

Make no mistake Volfans it’s NOT hysteria or Sunday morning quarterbacking IMO to recognize reality that our entire season is on the line with Heup’s choice of STARTING QB. Now that we ALL KNOW Joe isn’t the answer.

Players coaches don’t win championships. You can’t protect your players and excuse away their game day flaws. At the expense of the W/L record. That’s the road to ruin and the unemployment line.

Time to face the music
Is Milton calling the plays? Let him throw the damned ball. The run game didn't work last night yet we kept doing it.

All the vitriol towards Joe is sorely misplaced

If he releases the ball and reads the plays quicker than Joe then start him. Joe is a little slow getting the plays in action cause he locks in on one receiver that is usually totally covered.

I guess if the O-line isn’t good for the next 3 years we’ll never get to see Nico play.
That’s not what I’m saying and not what most are saying either. As a true freshman the game moves at a different speed for you, you can’t process good decisions as quickly. With a good offensive line it doesn’t matter as much. With ours it’s a recipe for disaster and for what it’s worth I would still be fine with rolling the dice if he were more physically ready. Kid would get broke in half at his size right now.

I think Nico will be a great one but with or without him we’re still not winning many games and you take a chance on your future being injured. If the Oline can find their asses with both hands later in the year I would be fine with it but I don’t see it as a good idea right now.

Preach. Hopefully this isn’t Pruitt-JG 2.0 where a dead man can see a change is needed but the coach is too stubborn to do it.
I’m NOT picking on Heup. To compare him to Pruitt is frankly an insult tbh. I’m just saying he’s in a tough situation bc Milton is an awesome kid and teammate. He hung in there when others would have hit the portal.

But Milton has had his fair trial and he can’t get it done at the championship level we need to play like Tennessee. It’s obvious now.

As you point out the real question is what is Heup going to do about it? Protect 3 STAR 6th Year Senior Milton or play the 5 STAR QB sitting on the bench?

Now it’s not a matter of IF Nico starts. It’s only a matter of WHEN. And IMO the sooner the better.

It’s these decisions that separate the next level coaches from the also rans.

I wonder what kind of recruiting class Deon could pull here? His very first class would beat anything we have had in twenty years. And he’d get actual impact players from the portal rather than the leftovers we get.
Let's revisit what kind of shape Colorado is in when Dieon bolts for a better job.. which won't be very hard to do, and will happen sooner rather than later. And he'll take all his best players with him, just like he did from Jackson State.

No vitriol here. Good kid good teammate serviceable QB.

But you can’t play QB in Heup’s O unless you can recognize unfolding mismatches at game speed and take advantage of them.

Hard to throw the damn ball when you can’t make the reads in the first place.

But hey you do you

It should be noted our O-Line did play a much better 2nd half than first half. Our line got rattled after the first drive and we struggled up front the rest of the half. But we had ran and moved the ball much better in the second half. We did not quit. We were down 26-7 and had some opportunities to get back in the game. The refs made a few bad critical calls that prevented any chance. But we dug our hole on the first half. Still, one game doesn’t decide a season it was a hostile environment and we didn’t respond good enough in the first half. Unlike fans the players need to buckle down and focus. Stupid penalties and simple tackling are things that can be fixed. We have lineman that can play much better than they did the other night. This team has to find the sense of urgency and want to. I imagine the staff is really going to start working some younger talent in. Somebody on D and upfront on the O-line is going to have to step up and lead there units.

I get that he needs experience but this is NOT the kind of experience he needs. The OL has major issues and is flat out dangerous. The last thing we need is an inexperienced and talented QB to get a major injury for nothing.

Milton is not our future and he probably has no future in the NFL based on his accuracy and decision making but he is HUGE and can take punishment.

Until the OL is fixes we need to start Milton. If he gets hurt and we have to go to plan b so be it but dont risk hurting Nico or giving him a bad experience as a starting QB. This year isnt worth it.
I don’t think you’ll have to worry about it. Volnation posters aren’t deciding who starts at QB, fortunately.

Would love to see Nico but understand your position and can't argue against it.

Who is he going to bolt us for? He would win a natty here within three years - where would he go that would be better at that point? He could be our Saban if the powers that be for once stepped up and did what they’re entrusted to do. They already blew it once by not getting Freeze when he could be had. Now there’s a coach that might be better than Freeze, and he won’t be gettable long. Once Bama or A&M hires him, he’ll have a buyout we couldn’t touch and will quickly reach a level we haven’t been at since 2001 so he has no motivation to leave.

I think Nico getting his leg broken in half would be a bigger disaster. It’s a crap show, no disagreement and people want change and I understand that but I don’t think the qb position is the biggest problem. Oline is absolutely horrendous.

You can’t be serious? You want to dump Heupel for Deion? I’m sorry that’s probably the dumbest idea put forth on this board ever.

Getting his leg broken at any point would be a disaster. He is a 5 star athlete, who is making lots of money to be here.He may not make a difference, but he may absolutely electrify this offense. Won’t really know riding the bench

So, looking back I guess Peyton should not have played as a freshman.

I bet you said the same thing to people who called for Dooley and Jones and Pruitt to be canned. If you can’t see that Deon is a worlds-better coach than Hype you’re not watching closely. CU won one game last year - 1. They could easily beat Oregon next week.

His recruiting is universes better than Heupel’s for where he has been. He pulled as many five-stars at a HBCU as Hype has at a top-ten program. He would have us top-five recruiting his first class. And he gets as much more from his players than Hype does as Andy Reid gets more than Brandon Staley.
