This is on Banks. For some reason against a team that has struggled to throw the ball he decided to play soft and let KY play pitch and catch. What I remember our defensive backs play so far back , like prevent defense, that Kentucky receivers already caught the ball, made a 1st down and then was tackled by our guy getting to the party after the play was made. It wasn't a matter of DB running with receivers and hoping to knock the ball down, the ball was already caught because they play too soft. Kentucky did this all game or enough to keep drives going and make the game closer than it needed to be.
People keep up this abject idiocy and keep repeating it. Martinez isn't the final word on the game plan. Martinez isn't calling plays or making the decision to give 10 yard cushions. That's Banks.Coach Huepel any coach that has anything to do
with coaching our secondary need to be gone. This is one area with some of the young talent we have to get major upgrade in coaching before Martinez and crew screws them up.
You have to be able to read the receiver....You don't run the whole route looking back to the ball....You read the body actions of the receiver and turn your head as the ball approaches. The WR isn't running down the field with his hands and arms up...that happens as the ball is approaching.
Just watching the Titans-Falcons game and a Titans DB made a great play on the ball....They made the comment that he played the pass perfectly and turned his head for the ball which avoided getting a pass interference call too.
Wiho coaches the CBs on how to turn their heads around and look for the ball? Banks or Martinez? And why is it we only have 1 CB, Hadden that can play? Why haven’t any of these other CBs been developed? Hadden definitely has. Why can’t others? Whose fault is that Banks or Martinez?People keep up this abject idiocy and keep repeating it. Changing Martinez and keeping Banks is like changing your battery because your fridge because your power keeps going out.
So essentially our DBs are not that good at simple fundamental things a DB should be good at.You have to be able to read the receiver....You don't run the whole route looking back to the ball....You read the body actions of the receiver and turn your head as the ball approaches. The WR isn't running down the field with his hands and arms up...that happens as the ball is approaching.

No idea. Believe there were stories about the entire staff getting raises and extensions. I think Willie just got a pay bump but no extension. Maybe Heupel was on the fence on him; maybe Banks was on the fence on him?no idea on that... if not extending him was meant to have him leave after this year, why do that? have him leave after last season.. if you don't want him here, you don't keep him a other year...

Retirement was the other thought I had.I would send someone away if I didn't have 100% faith in them... why handicap yourself and program if you don't have that faith? Once I decided to relieve someone it, it happened immediately, not in a year.
The only logical thought I might have is if Willie told them he planned to retire after this year then maybe they agree to a pay bump for his last year.
This. I've said this many times on this board. Watch the pros. They rarely turn their head. It's the elite ones that can, and then make a play. For most part, all across the football world, they do not turn their heads, for a myriad of reasons. If you are one of those guys who can consistently turn their head, stay even with a faster guy, not get double moved, and make s play? You are going to earn top money in the leaguewatching Oregon - Utah right not. Saw Utah DB turn his head and WR got behind him for a TD. That is the main reason I've heard multiple secondary coaches say they encourage DBs to NOT lose sight of the WR. they like for them to read the WRs and turn when receiver gives indication of making a play on the ball. WR coaches "love it" when watching film and catching DBs "peaking" as they call it.
Bama and UGA put corners in the league on the regular. We do not. I suspect it comes down to the Jimmy's and Joe's with DB's and not the x's and O's. We don't have those dogs yet. Hadden was there, and maybe we've got some younger ones that are able.I have said this a million times. Just watch Bama and Georgia. That’s who we need to be able to beat. And they press a lot.
A little press at the LOS last night would have put Leary in a whirlwind. He was on time and in a rhythm and we never did anything to make him do different.
