i wasn't trying to play what if...just pointing out that winning ugly doesn't necessarily mean that the team is bad, depending upon who those close wins are against...I'm not complaining about a win! Its just that we could have easily lost atleast 3 more games! But we could play what if all day!:dunno:
well, we'll see...cause what happened last year in my mind was self inflicted. It's not like we are looking at, at least in my opinion anyway, completely rebuilding this program from a talent standpoint. by all rights, we should have players here. Given how we lost all those games last year, one would think that the direction the coaches have taken is the correct one...discipline, attention to detail, eliminate mistakes, up tempo etc...Truth is we had a bad season and in all but 1 game one play made the difference. Basically we go no breaks now we try to put our coach on the hot seat. Had we gotten blown out every week then I would be the one lighting the fire. I say we stay off his back and give him a chance to turn this thing around. We still have talent and 2 great coordinators.
A bowl would be better than last season. Our problem is recruiting. Back when we had kids like Al Wilson that cared about the program we did well. These California kids care about themselves and getting to the NFL. We have had poor leadership on the field. There is only so much a coach can do. Expect Ainge to bounce back but do not expect a trip to the ATL unless it is on Dec 30.
First off, we didn't make it to a winning record or a bowl game. We weren't in the top half of our conference. We showed no discipline on the field and even less off it. Our discipline problems were a national media joke before the season began and just got worse throughout. We also lost to Vanderbilt, our instate rival that doesn't have an athletic department and couldn't defeat an MTSU team that only recently became 1A. After that game, several of our players showed a lack of respect for the school, coaches, fans, each other, and pretty much everyone else by leaving their helmets on the field. I don't think that UT can claim to be a top college program in 2005, after a year like that.
A few reasons why we were not a top college program in 2005. (But only in 2005).

However, the 2006 season is new and with our huge fan base I think that a decent season will help bring us back nearer to the top.
On behalf of any fans that might have been in a coma and missed last year . . . thank you.
Next to the word "homer" in the dictionary must be your picture. :whistling:
I love UT as much as anybody on this planet, but I don't consider UT to be the ONE SINGULAR best program in the history of college football. Is UT a top 10 program all things considered? Absofreakinglutely, but there are a handful of other programs who have had a tad better histories than we have. That's all I'm sayin'.
And anyone who does think UT is the best should be labeled "homer" because they don't agree w/ your definition? I mean that in a fun way :ermm:
