Hahaha. People who know football want joe. Hahaha. Maybe opposing fans who know football.People who blame the QB for everything want Nico.
People who know football want Joe, because we know that the issues with all the other position groups on offense, which are the primary causes of our deficiencies aren't just going to magically vanish with a new quarterback.
I think CJH is fine with making the change....when it is actually the right time.I don’t believe this as I don’t think Heupel is mature enough of a coach to make the swap and successfully manage that constant PR….
To me Joe and Nico are a spitting image of Dabo with Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence.
Everyone knows that Milton (Bryant) is a bridge QB to the future in Nico (Lawrence) after a very elite “franchise QB” in Hooker (Watson)…. Dabo had a natty to shut down the naysayers on ripping the Bandaid off to go with the highly touted 5 star in Lawrence and he leaned on that to shut the fans and media up.
I’m not sure Heupel can manage that same environment when Nico will make mistakes or even lose a game or two. He can point to the future and say Nico is gonna be our QB for 2+ years but articulating that in a way that doesn’t revolt the fans is a tall task i don’t think he’s up to.
Because the minute Nico loses a game against a weaker SEC team or makes a lot of mistakes in a game that is closer than it should be, all these fans gonna be going wild.
Bull crap. Joe was starting over Hooker until he got hurt and on came Hooker. How short the memory is. Best player isn’t always starting. Remember a certain coach had Kamara on the sidelines not too long ago? Must have been not the best player either. If Nico was better than Milton right now he'd be starting already. That doesn't mean Nico won't be really good, but true freshmen have a HUGE learning curve going from high school to the SEC. We don't want to throw him to the wolves like we did Guarantano and break him mentally too. Guarantano's internal clock was permanently broken by those early beatings he took. If Heupel thought Nico was capable of saving the season, he'd already have played. It's probably best to ride with Milton, see if he can figure it out, he's got several games at home to play. If we've got 3 or more losses after Bama, let's start the transition in a way that tries to set him up for success.
As I said above, Hooker wasn't a true freshman. And you think Heupel is Butch Jones? Like I said, I understand the idea that we have a Cam Newton on the bench is a very powerful one, it's why the back up quarterback is always the most popular player on the team, and right now the idea that Nico is a savior in waiting helps some keep alive the 14-1 fantasy, and if the coach throws Nico to the wolves and it proves to be too soon, you can just blame the coach for that too, what do you have to lose. It's Nico's life and career though, and I suspect Heupel cares more about that than the average fan, if Nico was presently ready for this moment I suspect we'd have seen him already.Bull crap.
