Had Marino went to another team, say perhaps the Raiders, with Allen and Jackson at RB, and Long, Alzado, Hendricks, Haynes and Hanes, etc. on D, and just coming off a huge SB win over the 'skins, there would probably be no need for this poll.
Marino was good; was he single-handedly good enough to take Raiders teams that did not even make the playoffs from 86-89 to the SB? Or, take the '90s team, sans Bo in the playoffs, to the SB?
Marino had chances with great teams in '90, '92, and '98. Marino's best shot would have been '93, but he tore his achilles tendon.
Marino was drafted in 83. That would have put him on the 84 Raider's team, and it was loaded. Like anyone else I'm just guessing, but I'd say multiple titles. QB was the downfall of the Raiders after Jim Plunkett's time was over. Don't make me mention Marc "I can't throw a dirty towel in the hamper without it getting picked off" Wilson and the host of others who are not worth mentioning.
I am not sure that the 1984 argument helps, since the Dolphins went to the Super Bowl that year and lost to one of the most dominant teams in NFL history.
That's your opinion. And also the opinion of a Chef's fan, also.
Marino was very good, he just played on some poor teams. I say he would not only have made the Raiders a better team, but the same is true of many other NFL teams.
Ask yourself this, how would the Dolphins fared without Marino? Shula may have retired a lot earlier.
I got your most dominant team of all time. Read 'em an weep.

Take that for what it's worth.
I would have loved to have had Marino in KC. I said earlier that I think he is the second best, and the only reason I give Elway the edge is because Elway consistently derailed my Chiefs.
I just do not know that Marino would have won a SB with the Raiders; technically, nobody should ever win a SB with the Raiders.
What impressed me about Marino is his knees were shot most of his career. He had very little mobility. So he stayed in the pocket and took the punishment.
I like Elway, and he had all the physical tools, but I doubt he'd be getting this many votes if he didn't win an SB. I don't think you can argue that Elway was the best player on those championship teams. I'll never be able to understand why SBs are weighted so heavily in QB evaluations.
BTW, Elway only threw 20 TDs 6 times (career max = 27). Career 57% passer.
