Who is they? I don't think the govt is interested in real solutions that don't fill their pockets. That's why the "well what happens at night when there's no sun?" stance is so idioticWhat do you consider long-term?
That simply isn't what is going on today. They are causing (creating) problems, with a solution that doesn't solve the problem(s) they created.
So, if this continues much further what are the chances of a massive depopulation event(s). I would say very high.
Super cheap but dirty energy is not a maintainable solution. Had we invested intelligently in alternatives that would likely be much cheaper as well. Saying it's just a long term problem is how we got here in the first place

Look at Texas
So because it won't always work in Minnesota it's not a tenable solution? Instead of solar how about they use geothermal?
Oil, coal, etc are much different than nuke and should be considered separate. Nuke is a real alternative as wellThere are different ways of generating energy, some things could in theory work which won't work in other places.... at scale in most places nothing is going to replace oil, gas, nuclear, etc. for the money.
Had they invested in it a decade ago where would they be? It's like the US believing that chips and meds would just always flow from China. Govt is the king of short sighted thinking

Yet the only solution of the engineering Germans was to rely on a provider who weeks be their enemy in a war? Sounds as if govt got in the wayGermans started heavily investing in wind and solar in the 90s, which is why they are having problems.
What are you talking about? You're not making much sense.
Coal and oil should be the first targets. But the US will never lead that effortDoesn't matter, the powers that be are not allowing nuclear to move forward.
The world needs it all i.e. coal, gas, oil, nuclear and solar/wind over the next 100-250 years until technology exists and slowly move over time.

You always believe the status quo will continue until it doesn't. Companies know that and many plan for the future. There is no incentive for the govt to do it unless the citizens demand it. That's why people listening to this woman puts us all behind
They failed to plan what could happen when the country that necessitated the formation of nato might not like them anymore. A country that already had a deep hatred of Germany going back decadesThey relied on one provider when they could have been seeking multiple providers of energy imports and even growing their own.
They are going to freeze this winter because they believed the lie.

They planned yet couldn't come up with a viable alternative besides relying on Russia? That's not really a plan is it?But they did plan i.e. green energy. You just don't want to face that fact.
In theory you could power the whole country of German off of solar/wind, but it comes down to cost. Once the costs get so high than everything breaks down. If you are working 90% (money) to produce the energy you need to live and produce than that doesn't work. LOL
There really isn't anything complex about this. This is why the Google solar project was shut down i.e. costs.
Production isn't the problem, its the amount of money it takes to generate the production. The reality is... most of this isn't going to work at scale right now.... and probably for the foreseeable future.
Windmills have been around for 100s of years, so what?
They planned yet couldn't come up with a viable alternative besides relying on Russia? That's not really a plan is it?
No I've consistently said alternatives not only "green" energy. For example, they could have had nuke plants up and running in that time yet didn't.The plan was to replace it with green energy ****, but that doesn't work at scale. So, they did what you wanted them to do.... and it will fail.

Germans relying on Russians to stay alive should have forced someone to realize that could backfire
