Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

What about the kids that are here already that have to pay tuition with very little NIL money (if any) and have to watch the transfers come in and get everything paid for? It has to be a tough pill to swallow.

It’s a tough business. You better understand this when you leave high school TVs job every year is to find players better than he has. The players job is to prove he can’t.

The use of the word at all is wrong. If you can't figure out why, I'm not explaining it to you.

So many people think they can be bigots, then call others “snowflakes” or “soft,” when they’re called out. As if being kind and thoughtful of others is somehow the bad position of the two. They completely miss the irony (hypocrisy) of calling others snowflakes while whining about the modern world expecting them to be decent and what a burden that is.

Yes, it’s wrong to use that word. I’ve used it in the past, but now I know better, so I don’t. It really can be that simple. Just takes being an empathetic adult.

I'm not offended. I used to work with special needs kids. I just think people who use that word as a slur are trash.
I had a grandson that died from Trisomy 18, which is a severe form of mental retardation. If you’re too ignorant to know what and how that word used as a slang translates, now you know. If you continue to use that word because you just don’t care, then I truly feel sorry for you. Having respect for special needs and compassion for those who are so much less fortunate than most of us is a good thing.

Many prayers !

We have close friends who have a son who is mentally handicapped. My wife coaches girls basketball and, wherever she has coached, has allowed him to be her “team manager.” He lives for it. He’s often at our house. We love him like our own.

I was talking about him to his mother one day and I finally said, “you know, I don’t think I’d change a thing about him if I could.” He’s so sweet, so innocent….and always will be. It’s like having an angel in our lives to remind us how we should be. She started crying and said,”that’s what most people don’t understand. His condition makes life harder at times, but he’s perfect.”

I also have a daughter who is high functioning autistic. I wouldn’t change a thing about her either. That’s what it means to love someone, I think.

Well-said. The pure love these individuals have and share openly with those around them is nothing short of pure joy. There is no pretense with them, only pure love. Thanks for sharing your story. I have a person similar in my life, too.

Yep cost them 4 at bats by Amick and burning thru Pitchers due to losing DH. Grice did make an incredible defensive play at 1B in the 11th.

You don’t have to use a DH. Grice as the pitcher hit for himself. He can’t be the P and the DH at the same time. Clemson did not utilize the DH in that game so to keep Grice’s bat in the lineup he had to go to a position. The relief P has to bat…or be PH for.

Still interesting that Amick came out of the game and not someone else…but their coach knows his team better than I.

That’s not correct as I understand it. Technically Grice was designated as the DH (batting for himself as the starting Pitcher), so by the rulebook, he could have remained as the DH once removed as the P. The only reason the DH was lost was because Grace went in as a position player after being removed as Pitcher. I know it’s confusing but essentially Clemson felt they were better off defensively with Grice at 1B up by 3 runs in the 9th. This effectively removed Amick’s bat in extra innings and resulted in DH being removed so, as you stated, they had to use lots of Pitchers since they needed to PH when they came up in the order.

Darn allergies getting me again. Well said by @GregAmsler and @cardvolfan

That is a lie. I said there are walk-ons and preferred walk-ons. Walk-ons are there by their choice and preferred walk-ons are recruited are recruited and given a spot. Actually the funny thing is since our discussion, there have been some of my son's teammates that admitted they were not recruited by the past coaching staff but walked on and earned their spot. He made it out to be that there is no difference between walk-ons and preferred walk-ons. Tried to say I was discrediting them because they were not recruited. Obviously after 4 years of watching me, you guys know that is not the truth but he still holds his narrative. He is a negative fan who only comes on here to trash the coaches. He does not like and never has liked Coach V and I called him on it back then and still do today.

For what it’s worth, I 100% believe and support @preacherman20. Like many on here, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him and getting to know him both online and off. I’m confident in saying that he’s honest, shoots it straight, and respects people—including all members of the team—doesn’t matter if they are walk-ons, preferred walk-on, or scholarship players. Also, his son is the consummate team player. That’s a great family that should be appreciated and respected. Just my 2 cents…GBO.

Jac Caglinone does this every Sunday. Once he’s removed as the starting pitcher he stays in the lineup as the DH batting for whoever takes his spot on the mound. They start off batting 9 positional players then move to 8 positional players and “insert” a DH (i.e. Cags).

What is the risk of taking Ryan at this point in the portal season even though it's a high probability that he will be drafted? Do they lose a roster spot? Is there a max number of portal players a team can have committed? and when do these guys sign on the dotted line? (Sorry that is alotta questions)
It washes out after the draft!
