Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

It just feels like you’re looking for a reason to support your “the transfer portal is bad” narrative. You’re making a lot of assumptions. You’re also leaving out the fact that it’s not like we have a guaranteed elite defensive 3B on the roster. If Denton leaves, it’s either Amick or a freshmen playing 3B. What makes you so certain the freshmen are going to be so much better defensively? Either way, someone new will be at 3B.

Give me Rucker

I understand man. Just hit me wrong. Not sure what info we have on him at 3b.

I've never seen him play 3rd, or any film of him playing there, so I have no comment on how good or bad he is at that position.

1) I think CEB is a legit top 10 coach in America and he obviously choose not to play the kid on that side of the infield and also let him walk to the portal regarding those wishes.
now couple that with the defensive replacement issue I just see a lot of reasons to doubt his ability to flash the leather.

With all that said give me Rucker. He has every bit of the talent to be able to play a great 3rd and swing the piss out of the bat.
Plenty of Freshman have been great in the SEC

I made the statement during the game that it was a coaching heavy weight fight where both coaches coached the perfect game but this does bring up another angle

I don’t think it was a mistake but it dang sure was in hind sights. EB is one of the best and I think he was just making that defensive move many make with a lead late
Yep cost them 4 at bats by Amick and burning thru Pitchers due to losing DH. Grice did make an incredible defensive play at 1B in the 11th.

None of us know that is why he's leaving. Have seen people say it but doesn't make it so.

At the time I wondered. But truly, I think it was one of those split-second decisions, and I would disagree with everyone. I think it was in their minds. They made a decision between Amick and Grice. Grice had proven himself throughout the season to be the better bat And defensive first baseman Even though numbers don’t prove that. I do not think they were even planning for extra innings. They thought they would bring in the next guy and the game would be over. Zane had other plans.

Such an unreal game….

btw I wasn’t on here during the game but I had no less than 5 vol fans mad as heck at TV for not pulling burns.
“Is he trying to lose?” Was the sentiment that crazy inning

I really think both coaches coached a perfect game. Some decisions works while this one issue with Amick didn’t

Two great coaches

I’m trying to figure this out. Are we OK with players getting disgruntled with playing time or position and leaving their schools or not? Or is it we’re just not OK when someone leaves us but we are OK when we get someone who left another school for the same reasons.
I’m really not trying to be contentious about this, but I understand in today’s culture if I coach gets a better opportunity, they leave which could be more money, better position, closer to family, or 1000 other reasons. But for me personally, I also have to understand that players Can make similar choices to leave for more money, better, draft ability, more playing time, and 1000 other reasons. I cannot be upset with a coach or player who does what they think is better for them whether it is or not and I am not just talking Chase Burns here. There are other guys who have left and will leave that. will do what they think is best for them, and only time will tail, which is true. Just now the portal does not close until next week and a lot of things will happen within the next few days. There will be players going in the portal from every SEC team as they figure out what is best for them.
Let’s just say I know a guy. He doesn’t know anymore than I do but I know a guy😂

Door swings both ways IMO. It's the new law of the land so play the game and win.

Great topic

For me there are two answers

1) players that are “encouraged”
To move on. this group should be immediately eligible

2) players that move for “greener grass” and their current school wants to keep them. Imo those kids should have to sit out a year

Each individual has the right to do what they think is best for them. Isn’t life about making things better for you and your loved ones when you have that chance?

This is so true,as my grandmother told me years ago "You can't have your cake and eat it also".

You've nailed it! Is the VN way!

Seriously though. It is the way of the land now. If they're not happy, for whatever reason, they should go. I don't hold it a against them. No different than someone getting unhappy at work and wanting a change. Is just different now that they are able to leave and play. Not fun having someone on your team that is checked out!

my issue is with the kids that aren’t checked out and are having fun… but leave for a bigger bag…

that’s where this system is allowing the wrong message to be taught.

that’s wrong for amateur sports imo

I agree. I'm not a big fan either. Just know that is not the rule now so basing my thoughts on that. The current rules are what they are. I miss teams that stay together but we will likely not see that again. Is the same with young kids in travel ball now. Plenty of 12 year olds on their 6th team.

“With regards to Amick, after having spoken with multiple sources on Monday about his recruitment, he is most likely going elsewhere. Assistant coach Monte Lee has been in touch with the family and Amick is actually spending the next couple of days with one of South Carolina’s current players. But the feeling is that he can’t get past his history and his family’s history with Clemson, which we noted as the major hurdle in his recruitment in our very first update weeks ago.
If I had to put in a Crystal Ball, it would be for Tennessee. North Carolina made a really strong push during their visit on Sunday and while they have come out of the blue late in the process, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if that’s where he chose to go. Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle did make his scheduled in-home last night, but there didn’t seem to be much traction there.
I won’t completely rule out the Gamecocks, but it seems unlikely. I expect him to finalize his decision by Wednesday.”

Got a question for you.

What would you do if you could leave your job for twice the pay?

Potential for this with these kids today. More likely they'll be made employees than go back to the way it used to be!

once again
But if we are going to question Clemson coaching, why did they not bunt with bases loaded after two reached trying to bunt.
poor coaching you have to try with no outs and bases loaded. Tight games make managers mistakes and hindsight is always 20/20 but you coach your team and he must have but by the book he was wrong and the rest is history. The DH thing is a big mistake by the manager along with the cf killing his team by being a punk. It went our way but they did help us quite a bit.

imo there has to be a difference between professional and amateur. My job is a profession and a college athlete shouldn’t “enjoy” the same type options

keep in mind a professional baseball player can’t just take another job for more pay until years and years into their career. 5 years in the milb before they can move

Yea no doubt

It’s why many here misunderstand my take on alot of this stuff. I don’t blame TV or any coach but I hate the system as a whole
I feel the same way but folks will spew venom if you you say that what NIL has turned into (ie pay to play or rent a player) is NOT good for college sports. I want the Vols to leverage the current system since it’s become a necessary evil.
