If he signs to play professionally (which was his goal) it takes some pressure off of Coach TV and staff. There will be no excessive pressure to play the older guy who is playing his last baseball.

I believe D. Dreilling will start in the outfield next year. More than once during an in-game interview this season, TV discussed the heart to heart conversation he had with Griffin Merritt. Griffin performed well and deserved to play but TV said by making Griffin our permanent DH he was keeping Dreiling the face of Tennessee baseball for years to come out of the lineup. Griffin put up big numbers so this was high praise for Dreiling from TV.

I also believe K.Tears will be a starter in the outfield. I thought Tears did enough last year to win the right field job. But a nagging hamstring sidelined him and Christan Scott stayed healthy.

Who will ever forget Tears' and Dreiling's ninth inning home run heroics off Vanderbildt's closer last year. Those two hits turned our season around. We were 5-10 in SEC play when those two young men with Chase Burns' help gave us hope. The rest is history.

Both are studs. Don’t forget about Chapman and Bargo too. One thing I feel VERY confident on. Whatever 3 they settle on in the OF is going to be very strong. And they’ll have depth too

Play the best guy. If Denton is back (I’m still not sold this will happen btw) then I would imagine Denton/Amick are you 2B/3B in some order, which will be determined in fall ball.

Now if CMo can’t cut it in the OF then you’re looking at him back at 2B and one of Denton/Amick at DH

I don’t think so as of right now (won’t stop him if someone big entered by tomorrow).

He’s leaving because the writing is on the wall. Kendro is better than him, they have two juco guys who could potentially factor in middle IF and they also have some very talented freshmen. Been in college 3 years now and he wants to play. SEC caliber glove, but doesn’t matter if you can’t hit SEC pitching. He will probably make a good player at a mid major school

You never know, but I would assume one of our talented freshmen will likely win the role, or you could see Amick/Denton play there if we are desperate enough. I’m not really too worried about SS though. Maybe I should be but I’m not

I wouldn’t be. Other than Rucker going to the draft, still have other incoming freshmen to prove they can. CMO could also play it as well

Maybe I’ll be wrong, but I just don’t see CMo playing SS. 1) It doesn’t make sense to move him off 2B if you’re moving him around the infield. I don’t think he moves off 2B unless it’s for the outfield. And 2) I know he was a SS in HS but he’s not likely to be a SS in the pros and is likely a corner OF. His glove isn’t his strongest asset and typically you need elite defense at SS.

Merritt changed his status to that after a week or so because it got so overwhelming he said. He was on vacation and had 60-70 schools reach out, which is not what he expected to happen when he went in. He figured he could find somewhere to go out of 70 and no need to hear from more.
