That came from Vitello Sr directly to me that White wanted to play 3B and CTV told him it was likely not to happen (or at minimum wouldn’t be guaranteed). If he could beat out Zane then so be it. Also said the more time he (CTV) spent around him or saw his personality the less of a “loss” it appeared it would be if he didn’t come to UT.
Did you know Skenes could sit 98-102 all game long last year? You didn’t because he didn’t. You’re returning all 3 weekend starters and you’re relegating one of them to the BP or mid week for a dude from a mid-major throwing 93? Maybe you’re the bonehead. If what I read here is true and TV told Tommy White he’d have to beat out Zane Denton and told Paul Skenes that he’d make a nice bullpen piece, then TV single handily cost UT a national championship. What a bonehead.
In reality, White has a fairly significant shoulder injury. He didn’t take infield at all in the postseason. He played with a shoulder brace. He isn’t playing this summer to rehab.White was quietly suspended during SEC Championship in Hoover. He’s not a high character guy to say the least. His bat is stellar but I’m glad we had a super high character guy and big bat in Denton.
I respect the heck out of the fact that CTV doesn’t make false promises to land recruits. That will bite you (ie lying) in the long wrong besides just being morally wrong. If what I read here is true and TV told Tommy White he’d have to beat out Zane Denton and told Paul Skenes that he’d make a nice bullpen piece, then TV single handily cost UT a national championship. What a bonehead.
It’s a lot more than that. There are certain schools guys want that they don’t even make the short list of. LSU wanted PeeblesLSU and Tennessee don’t go H2H on every transfer - or many transfers.
Ahuna, Skenes, White last year.
Loer, Holman this year.
5 of 20 transfers that the 2 schools signed the past 2 years. That may be more H2H than any other combo of schools, but for the most part - both are getting who they want.
Agree with everything you said and my response wasn’t denying any of thatThat came from Vitello Sr directly to me that White wanted to play 3B and CTV told him it was likely not to happen (or at minimum wouldn’t be guaranteed). Skenes was a top 20 pick on mocks coming out of last summer. He wasn’t a run of the mill college pitcher. He was the #3 pitching prospect in the draft. He was the most coveted transfer in the portal last summer for a reason.Did you know Skenes could sit 98-102 all game long last year? You didn’t because he didn’t. Hindsight is 20/20. What happens if they didn’t perform? Then all those promises would lead to pissed off fans and players that deserved playing time over them. It’s easy to look back on it and say the promises were kept. But if could have gone the other way and they could have performed like crap leading to a wasted season.FTR, LSU delivered on everything they promised Skenes and White.
