Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

So do we have any idea who's still in the portal that we may want? Or are we done?
Probably done for now. I’m not sure if they had a backup plan for Holman or if the backup plan was just roll with what they have (not sure there’s any portal pitchers out there who are better than any of the freshmen)

I expect you’ll see some more movement after fall, but typically that’s gonna be some guys who see the writing on the wall leaving and unless something crazy happens you aren’t adding any major pieces for your team after fall ball. A lot of the guys such as Booker, Kendro, and Jaslove have already decided to move on which was smart on their part. You’re really behind if you miss fall ball

Let’s ride with the guys that will be with us in ‘24. I think we will have really good starting pitching.
Going to have a great bullpen too I believe. Lots of young guys vying to complement the veteran bullpen group of Causey, Snead, Combs, Kirby, Zander.

Keep an eye on the following throughout the fall. I’d imagine one of these will be the midweek guy if Zander gives that up (not sure what their plan is there) and 3-4 of them probably pitch a decent amount of innings out of the pen this year:

Hunter Sloop (RHP)
JJ Garcia (RHP)
Austin Hunley (RHP)
Derek Schaefer (RHP)
Matt Dallas (LHP) - i believe he will be the Sunday guy
Bryson Thacker (LHP)
Andrew Behnke (LHP)
Brayden Sharp (LHP)
Dylan Loy (LHP)

This list includes lots of guys who are either killing summer ball leagues, played well in limited innings last year, or are highly regarded incoming freshmen (a few of whom gave up real money to come to campus)

And the wildcard in all of this is Wyatt Evans. I’ve heard a few mixed things, but honestly don’t know much so don’t want to speculate. But if he is healthy and focused, that’s another big time arm whether it’s out of the pen or as a Sunday starter

I don’t believe the white/Denton stories are accurate

The timing doesn’t work

White committed to lsu before Denton committed to the Vols
Perhaps it’s not that Zane was committed but that CTV was recruiting him for that spot at the same time he was talking to White and saw Zane as his 3B if it worked out and White as his DH.

I think he preferred to play for LSU.
Why are you spending so much time on a Tennessee forum? I appreciate fans who join to engage in good faith conversation, but you seem more like a condescending d*ckbag who wants Tennessee fans to concede to LSU's (apparent) superiority.

We can generally just assume if LSU wants a guy, they will get him. Tbh I’d just stop wasting time on a kid that they’re seriously going after

it would be extremely rare for tenn to take a transfer after the fall: keep in mind those kids can’t be eligible to play in the spring anyways

This is pretty cool. When you factor in all of the losses other teams took in the draft (and we lost 1 player), we now have the 4th best 2023 recruiting class.

Arcansaw has 7 top 100’s who will be making their way to campus?!
I despise them but if so, that’s pretty impressive and scary at the same time.

We need to just hire the professor, that Dr who collects all of the sweet Tennessee memorabilia and that bruin guy, because he knows everything, and start our own “pitching lab” like Wake Forest!
With the Frank and lab combination, we’re sure to kick LSU’s @$$ for any pitcher we want!
GBO!!

I’m not giving up on Sechrist, just yet!

I waited until after Holman announcement to say anything. I'm only a Noob here and so my observations are FWIW. There wouldn't be so many trolls if they weren't concerned about the trajectory of UT baseball. I'm not ready to crown LSU the forever king of baseball or that LSU will always beat Tennessee in portal recruiting. In fact, they haven't as others have pointed out. I don't believe in generalizations and "always" and "nevers". I'm well aware LSU has more baseball money than God but, as long as CTV is around, LSU will have to work hard for it. I'm thinking that CTV is the most competitive, hard-working, and best coach in college baseball as is the rest of the staff. In the long run, I believe 24/7 work can beat out those who have superior resources and think they are entitled. Tony and Staff are out there working while others are drinking beer and eating crawfish.

CTV turned around the Administration and fans. Top-notch facilities are coming. In my feeble mind, Tennessee already is measuring up with vandy, Florida, South Carolina, the Mississippis, and Arkansas. The SEC gets two more hurdles and past CWS winners in TX and OU next year; until 2023, TX and LSU were tied with 6 titles each. I think the top item on Tony's list has always been winning the CWS and he won't rest until it happens. Then, to borrow a Neyland maxim, he will pour on more steam to do it again. I've heard Tony mention his admiration of Augie Garrido and we know what he did. I believe UT is on the verge of winning the CWS in the not too distant future. And the trolls know it.

Looking forward to another banner year in 2024! GBO!!

Yes, and they have Hagen Smith and Brady Tygart returning. Plus, they landed former Texas Tech ace Mason Molina from the portal. They legit will arguably have the top weekend rotation next year. Then you add in that top class full of lefties and couple of top shelf righties. Wake, TCU, and now maybe LSU in the top 4 of bullpens with Arky. Arcansaw's hitting will be the biggest question though. The SEC once again will be a gauntlet though. I figure us, Florida, LSU, and Arkansas will be the top 4 teams in the conference next season. Our hitting should be the best outside of Florida I would imagine. Having Beam to go with Dallas give us a nice chance on most weekends.
