Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

What makes you say that, nobody here knows what’s going.
Of course, but there's just so much smoke around this situation. I guess my comment will be moot if he stays. But if he enters the portal, because he didn't like being moved to the pen, then he should have enough self-awareness to know why.

Apparently not, they still use their full windup pitching from the “stretch.” According to you guys.
Give. It. Up. You are simply wrong in your understanding of a windup vs stretch vs slide step. The Stretch doesn’t involve taking a step back or to the side before pitching, and/or moving your hands over your head before pitching. A windup does. A slide step is an abbreviated front leg movement while pitching from the stretch (with runners on 1st or 2nd base) to quicken your release to home plate.

This is going to be a normal thing from now on.. One hopes you break even, get as good a players from the portal as you lose. Blame the system not the kids. This is becoming more of a business every day. College sports used to be different than pro sports. It's becoming more and more like pro sports with each passing day. I hardly watch any pro sports any longer. I hope I can still enjoy college sports.

I agree no matter where he ends up a 12.11 ERA will land you on the bench. Chase may not admit it but moving him to the pen was the best move for him and the team at the time. One could argue he should have been moved back to a starter late in the season but as a coach would you want to shake up the line up at that point.

If Chase stays I am going to cheer for him like I did when he struggled and if he leaves I will cheer for whomever replaces him. I am going to chose to focus on the kids who are here and not worry about the ones that are not.

I agree, you hit the nail on the head. We may never know what his reasoning is for staying or leaving. What's more, we have a tendency to add HS drama to the situation. Goes back to the HS analogy of all the guys chasing after one girl when there are 10 that can fill her void. I thought that there would be a change as well in the bull pen rotation, but when I think about it, this would not have worked unless Burns was pitching lights out. I believe he was a better closer than starter. He would always give up early runs and settle in as the games wore on or in late innings push himself. He appears he needed to be set up vs coming in at the front in of the rotation. Arms get tired and Burn's arm need a rest at the first of the season which was facilitated for him after the season started.

I would disagree that he has been bashed. Maybe not by you but by others. I just don't get it. He gave us all he had the last 2 years. I don't think we beat Clemson or USM without him so we don't get to Omaha and don't win in Omaha without him. I can celebrate that for us and him.
Allegedly was not connected to the phrase Burns does not like Anderson's style. It was connected to the sentence before. I just think if the player gave all he had to us he would be celebrated not attacked (not saying by you but by many on here). But maybe I'm different. You would think the players and the parents of the players would be the ones who would feel like they were betrayed but that is not the case. I reckon I just need to block this thread because whether he stays or goes it will bad for him on here. I just see the young man personally and not just #23 or the Friday starter or the (fill in the blank). I see Chase Burns, the young man who helped get us to Omaha and gave all he had. Sorry. I did not mean to attack you personally.

All very true. Just a general response from me. As I’ve stated, I’ve loved watching him play. I will never attack a kid personally. But if kids want to play with NIL and make decisions for themselves, constructive criticism comes with it. Can’t have it both ways. Just like the big leagues. Just part of it.

No they do not. Let me explain this to you. Or better yet post videos so you can get a visual. The first video is the stretch vs the windup. The 2nd video will demonstrate the slide step from the stretch.

Lindsey started against four Regional Hosts. Arkansas (#3), Vanderbilt (#6), Kentucky (#12), and South Carolina (#15). Definitely not much easier as you said.

I only said the first half was tougher overall. I didn't say the second half was much easier.
I don't think KY and SCar were known for having strong offenses compared to the rest of the league.
I'm not saying it was easy street down the stretch, but the two Finals participants had come and gone.

SCar led the SEC in HR’s for most of the season until their injuries finally caught up to them. When fully healthy SCar was and is a top 5 team in the country.

It is a constitutional issue. The Supreme Court granted cert. Their role is to determine if statutory law conflicts with our constitution. If it’s not a constitutional issue, SCOTUS can’t hear the matter.

Sorry, not trying to be difficult, but this just isn’t accurate. The Supreme Court (and federal courts generally) hear lots of cases that are not about constitutional issues, including, as in Alston, cases that just involve the interpretation of federal statutes like the Sherman Act.

Adam Cecere of Wake Forest wants to be a Vol according to VQ. But I’m not sure he’s really a take if you look at his number. They’re fine but nothing to get you excited. I’d like to roll with Dreiling/Chapman/Tears for a season to see what they can give you.
Numbers may not be exciting but he’s had a lot of playing time. I’d take him.

What matters is what they were when they played us, and if I'm not mistaken, the only thing they did well on offense was HRs.

The word, "allegedly", was tied to the entire idea that he was unhappy, at all, because as you intimated, I've not heard anything directly from Chase Burns, at all. Frank Anderson, the move to the bullpen, and any other reason following that statement were simply rumored reasons for that alleged general unhappiness.

It probably depends on the attitude with which you approach the post as to how you interpret it since there is no inflection in written text. By your own admission, you have approached this thread in defensive mode, for lack of a better term, so my intent was likely lost on you.

As I stated, you have a different perspective than almost anyone else, so I'm not at all surprised that you view these kids thru a lens similar to that with which you view your own moreso than that of a fan. Apology accepted and as always, Go Vols!

True, although Lindsey threw 4 and 2/3ip of one run ball after Burns against LSU, so he essentially threw a start’s worth of pitches in that outing.

I get what you’re saying. And I don’t disagree. Every one of SCOTUS’ cases involves a statute or case law or a local code or any form of law. And they are determining if it (or a ruling in which it is the issue) is constitutional. That’s day 1 Constitutional Law…SCOTUS is the ultimate arbiter of the Constitution. They hear cases to determine if a law or proposed law violates the federal constitution. Otherwise, SCOTUS has no jurisdiction and cannot grant cert.

Violation of the Sherman Act is still a violation of the Constitution due to the Constitutional Law concept of preemption, giving the federal government the authority to pass laws re: commerce, which is a roundabout way of getting there, but that’s not uncommon. So we’ve decided that the SA is constitutional. To violate it is not.

Ultimately, SCOTUS had to decide if the federal district court’s ruling was improper. It was not.
