I disagree completely on Milton. He’s terrible. Will be hard to get a good QB to transfer bc they would be behind Hooker for a year.
At RB, haven’t been impressed with Small. I think Wright will develop and pass him in the offseason. To get back to where we want to be, we need to better than Wright and Small at RB. Both are ok but not great. Hopefully we can land an impact player at RB. Would be huge for our offense

Milton is not terrible.

JG was terrible. Dormady was terrible.

Milton ran the offense pretty well. He made the right reads and didn't put the ball in harms way very often. Yes, the over throws were frustrating and the end of the OM game was bad. But you could do a lot worse for a back up QB (and we have).

Small averaged 5.5 yards per carry and had 11 TDs. Not sure what else he can do to impress you.

All offenses require a stud RB, but teams need at least 2 studs now a days. Small is good but played injuries and nobody else was able to carry the load (even though I thought we were in excellent shape). Any chance of signing the Auburn kid who entered the portal? He and a healthy Small would be an excellent duo.

LB is the biggest need and just like last year we need someone at every position group.

One position group we are better at than I think most realize is at WR.

I will be shocked if Hyatt doesn't become a force in this offense next year. He's primed for a big leap. This offense is prolific and he's perfect for it. Calloway was shelved, but aside from the FLA drop he looked like a dude. Keyton when called upon was solid. Merrill should be good. Holiday could be a weapon.

Add just the freshman we are bringing in to that group and we are probably deeper than we are this year.

And we are still likely to add a stud transfer.
What ever happened to Calloway? Honestly the last meaningful game I remember him playing in was against Florida. Was he benched for the rest of the season for one drop? He looked good besides that one play.

Lol. If your takeaway is that Milton ran the offense well then that’s all I need to know

Now that we have a pretty good idea of what the signing class will be (still waiting on Pearce and may get another February signee like Moten), we have a good idea of what our transfer portal needs are. Since we have addressed the need at OT with Mincey, I think the staff will look for the following:

-Jared Verse. Obviously. Day 1 starter and impact player.
-A plug and play LB. We hope Willis will develop, but it looks like our 2-deep at this point is Willis, Banks, and Beasley. Don't wanna depend on a freshman as the 4th guy.
-A plug and play WR. I know we are signing some good freshmen, but losing Jones and Payton, it would be nice to get a day 1 contributor on the other side of Tillman so the freshmen can ease in. Jacob Copeland? Was hoping Hooker could lure Tayvion Robinson from VT, but he's apparently going to Kentucky.
-A plug and play Safety. We missed on Gilbert. McCollough is too slow. I like Charles and McDonald, but we need more bodies there.

That's 5 transfers, counting Mincey. We've signed 20 and may add Pearce today for 21. Add the 5 and we're at 26. I'd say that would just about fill us up.

The defense needs help everywhere.

Why? He is an afterthought in the run game. If that’s what he wants to be it will be somewhere else.
He's also a sophomore that played hurt and gave solid minutes and runs when we needed them. Premature throw away IMO. I'd give Jerry Mack more time to work with him. Again, not against him going to LB either...

I think we kick the tires wherever we feel the transfer is an upgrade over what we have and has 2 or more years to play. We have enough holes where we can take the best available approach instead of focused on perceived weaknesses.

We need to add a QB and a day one starter at RB in addition to the positions already mentioned in this thread (WR, DT, LB).

We are really thin at QB especially with Milton not being an actual viable option.
We need to big time RB to replace Evans and be the feature back in this offense.
Need a day 1 starter at WR to replace Payton and Jones.
Need a day 1 starter at LB and let the other guys develop.

I think we will land some really good players through the portal over the offseason.
Yeah another QB would be important if , God help us, HH gets hurt. Maybe Milton could do the job, but who knows.

But he did. He played roughly 8-9 quarters worth of football this year. Our offense scored 65 points while he was at the helm. Clearly he guided the offense well enough.

This is what I feel we need to sign from the portal

1 DL
1 LB
1 Safety

If we add any OL, WR, or RB that would be just the cherry on top.

We signed 4 Ol today and 2 RB. Not a huge need there.
