Oregon is a little different…most of those transfers have been there multiple years.

RT - multiple years
LG - multiple years
WR Tez - multiple years
QB - multiple years
Burch multiple years

Etc etc.

Sure they have a ton of transfers, but they get the ones that have more than one year left. If anything it’s like they are getting JUCO kids that have multiple years to play and develop.

I’m in the “it depends camp”. Ole Miss was like 90% transfers and played well, but you also had FSU…they sucked.
I'm not sure about the rest, but Dillon Gabriel has not been at Oregon for multiple years. This is his first season in Eugene. He was at UCF for 3 seasons (with Heupel), then Oklahoma for 2 seasons, and then this year at Oregon.

Starters per class:
2021: 0
2022: 0
2023: 0
2024: 0

Hopefully 2024 changes to a 1 with Satterwhite. Luckily the portal has blessed us in that regard, so if you’re talking recruiting as in portal and HS, then it has been good!
3 of Satterwhite, Sham, Warren, and Perry may start - gotta play the young talent if they’re ready.

I guess I can’t speak for him. I think we relied on it because we had to at the time, and I fully believe it was the right thing to do and handled the right way, by not just throwing the bank at every shiny object in the portal. But I also believe it should be less necessary moving forward
It will be less necessary by virtue of having used it correctly in the past few years. Not because it was a mistake to ever use the portal. That's the distinction.

If they are ready, I agree. I wasn’t saying they shouldn’t start.

I was just answering that posters question about recruiting. On paper, yes it has been better 100%. On the field, yet to be seen since we haven’t had any of them start yet.

Transfers are fools gold. We've relied on it too much to date and should far less going forward.

Transfers in the starting 22 by the team's ahead of us in the CFB Playoffs:
  1. Oregon - 14
  2. Georgia - 2
  3. Texas - 6
  4. Penn State - 3
  5. Notre Dame - 4
  6. Ohio State - 3
We have 8.

We need to recruit high school better and develop better. Not do more the portal.
I agree with your point in general but none of those schools had the terrible roster that CJH inherited. It takes time to rebuild that roster and use of portal players was required. That being said, I think staff did a fantastic job in the portal.

I don’t disagree with that. To me, we were a tough sell to HS kids the first few years.

Again, I don’t want to speak for him, but I think King’s opinion is we should have been recruiting better in the first couple years and then wouldn’t have had to rely on the portal.

He knows better than me, I don’t have any inside connections whatsoever, unless you count volnation lol. My personal opinion is would have taken a big name special hire to have recruited much better than we did at the beginning.

I'm not going to argue with you over what you think someone else meant. I'll just let my rebuttal stand.
