'25 Portal Thread

There’s got to be structure. This is truly the wild, wild west. Some of these players are asking for more than their position coaches probably. Do you make more than your boss? Would you even think about asking as much as your boss? These kids want their cake and want to eat it too. They’ve approved this travesty so there’s no putting the toothpaste back in the tub. I just find zero entertainment value in this current culture of “collegiate” athletics. It’s just very sad.

Most med/software sales jobs (good ones) you can make more than your boss.

But I do see what you’re saying.

I think you meet him in the middle, he's worth it for what he adds to the defense. If he walks you have to replace him and we will absolutely need help at safety. I think the idea/strategy is to break in youth at safety like we did corner this year. If Boo is out that kind of changes the calculus for your plans I would think.

We have to expect portal entries as a leverage tactic. This is nothing new. We've had guys enter the portal, get what they want, then pull out. We've also had guys enter the portal, not get their number, and leave. It's a negotiating tactic. I get the sense our staff and spyre will keep the guys who they really want to stay. Would be a bummer to lose someone with as much talent as Boo but he may be asking for something ludicrous. Or he may be a pain to deal with. I have no idea. But it's hard for me to imagine more of the kids (or more specifically, their representation) don't want raises. A little surprised we haven't heard more names, honestly. We won't keep them all.

We certainly need to keep him. I would guess they need to be careful or many will want more.
Asking for more with an increase in your role is fine. It's setting precedent for others as you mentioned. But at the end of the day if he thinks the market is bigger for him elsewhere.......

The money talks. And I could see Sanders in his ear, and we know he has no problem pushing star status for some of his players and paying them differently.

FWIW….Boo rated 23/26 for the players that played 100 snaps according to PFF. He graded out at a 60.6 which according to them is a rating a backup would have.

I think he’s a solid player BUT let’s not act like he is Caleb Downs or something

He’s good in the run game and likes to hit. Didn’t show much defending the pass. Great return man.

I would like to question how this is the staffs fault? Dude played a lot of snaps and had what I assumed was a pretty nice NIL package? Like I’m all for getting onto people but this feel more like the kid want to get a bag and we were not willing to pay it not saying it doesn’t suck but not sure what more the staff could do (besides obviously pay the price)
That is the problem. Market value is always set on what someone is willing to pay.

Cap the **** and have contracts like the NFL
Only way to fix it
You are seeing what happens when young adults have more power, they act like toddlers and forget how much more was invested in them then what they are paid
