'25 Portal Thread

Eason signed a new deal? That’s awesome!

Apparently its lost on a LOT of our fanbase (not you) that retaining the bulk of our roster and the BEST on our roster is even MORE important than every shiny, new player in the portal. Our biggest rivals can do double the damage to us competitively if they can TAKE great players from us and ADD them to their roster. To lose a player the caliber of Boo or especially a Nico, Matthews etc to a rival team would be a HUGE blow. Guarantee you all our biggest rivals in the SEC are tampering with our best players thru their agents trying to put a dagger in our backs.

You have to sweep your OWN porch before you worry about anyone else's.

Aside from the aspect mentioned above, even landing a STAR player of equal ability to someone like Boo is a loss. That player doesnt have a year in our system, doesnt have relationships with our coaches/players, and didnt CHOOSE Tennessee out of HS when they had lots of options. They have zero loyalty or bonds here within our team. Does that mean we don't want portal players? Of course not. This staff has plugged key holes in our roster using the portal every year...it just means that the guys that are already here are much more important in the vast, overwhelming majority of cases. People need to calm down and let our staff do what they do best IMO. They have earned our respect and trust.

And what evidence we have to hope he improves from this season? He was this year's 2023 Ramel Keyton. Dropped every easy pass but caught 3-4 very difficult passes. The biggest concern is he didn't win 1-on-1s imo.
The reports that the coaching staff believe he’s only scratched the surface of his ability, for starters. Thornton improved between year 1 and year 2 at Tennessee (was just hurt too much).

It amazes me how many fans don’t account for player improvement. It’s like y'all think every player arrives as a finished product and will be that for the rest of his career.

Time to be done with college football. These aren’t college athletes. They are greedy, over the top bastages. This current environment is not college football. It’s minor league pro ball. There’s no loyalty to a school except the almighty dollar. Anybody that says this is how it’s always been done, just under the table, is lying. They weren’t handing out bags for 2nd and 3rd stringers for 6-7 figures.

This is completely absurd.
Totally agree. I'm about to be over it.

Bc they once believed too and some fluid situation changed which made them look like a fool in front of friends and family after they ran to them with the inside info, in hopes of gaining credibility and validity. Just a hunch.
If someone is running to family and friends in hopes of gaining some credibility and validity by repeating what someone on a message board said, they may have a different problem entirely which would also make them look like a fool. Also just a hunch lol

How are we going off the deep end? Constantly losing players, maybe even Boo now, and not wanting to spend money on anybody. College football sucks now.
CONSTANTLY losing players! We’ve lost so many starters and impact players already! 😭😭😭

Oh wait, what? We haven’t lost any starters? Smh

Won a national title in baseball.
#1 in basketball. Just made the elite eight for second time in history.
Have beaten Alabama and Florida in 2 of last 3 years in football. Finished second 10 win regular season in three years after being lost for 25 seasons. #1 player in country from 2 years ago at QB. #1 player in country for 2026 committed at QB.

And people on here are miserable. Hopefully people have enjoyed this run more than it appears here right now.

Great post. I believe at least 80% of the fanbase has a grasp on reality and feels this way. The rest likely never will. Just wish they'd keep their ignorance to themselves a bit more...but theres a reason the Right to Free Speech is the 1st Amendment. Without it, none of the rest really matter. I don't agree with these idiot Negas...but I support their right to embarrass themselves publicly LOL

God bless and GO VOLS.

On the contrary, if Boo gets hurt then we would be down two positions filled by one player.

I think they just put a little package in for him. WR Reverse, WR Screen, probably from the Slot WR position, maybe even in the backfield. He knows he isnt Matthews, and won't get much practice time on offense. Great to have another weapon though. Boo is shifty...

“Outcoached” is just some BS someone said once and others thought “that sounds cool I can say that and sound like I know something “
Our defensive gameplan and play calling was awful. Brooks Austin (film guy), Swain and many others said as much. Put our corners on islands man on man with no help over the top.

Why not do what Michigan did? Makes no sense
