'25 Portal Thread

Hubbs has said repeatedly in the last 2 weeks that our NIL budget for 2024 was $15 or 16M . We apparently dont have $22M to spend like Ohio st...not last year anyway.

I posted about this earlier...but we are YOUNG as Hell on the Oline, Dline, LB and at WR for the 2025 season. There is no way we are winning the SEC or the Championship. None. We are looking at an 8-4 or 9-3 type season next year. Which is OK. We should be in MUCH better shape for 2026 and ready to make the playoffs again hopefully. To me, the question is how much $$$ should we spend for 2025 then? We DEFINITELY dont need to pay any Seniors or guys with only 1 year to play to come here for next year. Why do that? Its literally throwing away money. The question is what pieces can we afford from the portal that have at LEAST 2 years eligibility left...that we can develop and keep for 2026 when we actually have a shot. Ole Miss and others proved this year that you cant bring in a bunch of mercenaries and win every year. I dont think we could buy enough talent to win a Championship next season if we DID spend $6M more next season. That money isnt gonna develop or replace the 3 young guys on the Oline, 5 young WRs, 3 young LBs, 3 young Edges, 3 young DEs....it isnt gonna happen.

What do you think Weezie? I trust this staff has a plan and they are gonna put a good team on the field next year. I also believe they are looking at 2026 for a serious run at the Chip.

Edit: bringing in 1 year Mercs also stunts the development of whomever would have gotten those snaps. We can bring in a senior RB that can rush for 1000 yards. We still wont win 10 games...or a Chip...and we likely lose Lewis and maybe a freshman RB too because they wont get to play.
Why do people come with SUCH strong opinions? 😂

Seriously, I have no idea what to think of all these players hitting the portal. Is it all money? Do kids not like our coaches? I can see money being the drive for some, but not all. Guys like Nimrod or Webb, what have they really shown for money to be the driving force? We'll see where everything is when the dust eventually settles, but the moment has kind of a "wheels falling off the bus" kind of feel.

I don't know what to think anymore. All these players leaving has me confused as hell.
Just like secondary last year, all players that folks cried all year about needing to replace because they aren’t good enough, so we let them walk to replace them with better players and then people want to cry about that too.

This is all so comical to me. Some say we need to purge and upgrade the roster. Then, when mostly second stringers leave, some get concerned. I believe we were well over the 83 number with our new class, so we had to have some leave.

Do you have any concerns with us not making any or quality replacements at these positions in the portal? I'm concerned but optimistic.

I’m sorry but this is just ludicrous at this point. How are you saying that the receivers we have left are talented enough to compete when they weren’t talented enough to make it in the rotation? A bunch of our young receivers only made it in once players were injured. Are they really going to be ready enough to compete, let alone against top SEC corners?

Yes, they have another summer to develop. Matthews got delayed because of injury. One or two of our new freshman will play, too. It will be ok.

They're better. And they are because they are. It's simple to understand. You comprehend this right?

I mean, yeah, who needs WRs? We'll just run the ball every play.

Everyone that's ok with Brazzell leaving forgets about other receivers like Hyatt and Thornton who made a big leap in on-field performance in year two in this offense. The coaches think Brazzell has a really high ceiling.
You are correct. Those kids put in the work off the field and the results showed on the field. Brazzell does have a high ceiling but he has to be willing to put in the work on his own

Quality WRs on remaining bowl teams. Hope a couple enter the portal.

Texas Tech:
Caleb Douglas (Jr) 55 for 762, 6 TDs
Coy Eakin (RS Soph): 45 for 605, 6 TDs

Syracuse:
Trebor Pena (RS Jr): 79 for 871, 7 TDs

UCONN:
Skyler Bell (RS Jr): 47 for 783, 4 TDs

BC:
Reed Harris (RS Fr): 15 for 470, 4 TDs

Louisiana:
Harvey Broussard (Soph): 31 for 486, 3 TDs

TCU:
Eric McAlister (RS Jr): 31 for 675, 4 TDs

Washington:
Denzel Boston (Soph): 60 for 808, 9 TDs

Baylor:
Josh Cameron (RS Jr): 44 for 653, 9 TDs

Texas State:
Kole Wilson (Jr): 43 for 630, 4 TDs

Buffalo:
Victor Snow (RS Soph): 51 for 610, 6 TDs

Give me Boston and Peña.

Harris seems like a fast kid as well.

I think Squirrel had regressed and left a lot to be desired.

But going in next year with Matthews, Staley, Brazzell is very scary. Smith and Jackson are freshmen and Dodson won’t be here until fall. That’s terrifying

If Boo plays, then we have at least 7, and we will add more. But I understand, you want everything right this minute.
Right. Which is why if you go back to my post you originally responded to, I said we'll see where everything is when the dust settles, but the moment feels like the wheels are falling off.
