The best thing about all our WRs leaving is now we will be forced to play the (hopefully) more talented young guys. That group was a major disappointment.
Hypothetically, if our coaches entered the musical chairs portal, which ones would be looking for a job when the music stopped? IMO, it would be OL, WR, Secondary, and OC. Am I wrong?Getting a player out of the portal just to get a player is ridiculous. If they aren’t going to play and help the team there is no point. We only have 83 scholarships and we are right about on that number.
There will be others in the portal when their season ends and more during the spring. Trust Heupel, he has handled the portal very smart each season. I worry more and his coaching staff and if he is cut throat enough to get rid of the deadweight.
Ah ok I thought that was the case so while our players can’t transfer after today (until April) we could still get others in from the teams who are still playing…hopefully we have some things lined up just waiting to announceAll teams still playing have a five day window is my understanding as their season ends
We’re at 80 after Perry and Pearce leave.Looking at LWS thread, once Perry announces for the portal, we'll be at 82. Pearce probably goes draft, that would put us at 81. Josephs could go draft, but for now, I'll lean toward him returning. We need to trim some fat from the OL room if we have guys that are never going to contribute. Will Masai Reddick ever play? Brian Grant? Our limit next season is 83. So if you take out Perry (portal) and Pearce (draft), we're at 81 scholarships and still reportedly want to add a RB, at least 1 WR, and at least 1 DL. And we may or may not be done at OL. So more guys will need to go to add all of that. Guess we'll see what happens.
Think this is right. Squirrel probably would have lost snaps to Staley. Brazzell and Matthews will start on the outside. We said the same thing last year with all the DBs leaving. Just to find out they just weren’t very good. Same with this group of WRs.
As many times as this is having to be explained, I think it needs to be pinned somewhere. The settlement was not signed and entered by the presiding judge. It is not settled. She instructed the parties to continue negotiating some items. The number is 85 until that happens. So the NCAA paid money to settle and law suit and then part of it was to take away the limit of scholarships and the SEC kept it at 85, doesn’t make a lot of sense. Are they running a risk of getting sued, as well as giving other conferences a leg up on the SEC?
Again, porthole movement isn't always the player's choice. I'm not sure why everyone forgets about the DB purge of 2023?Think this is right. Squirrel probably would have lost snaps to Staley. Brazzell and Matthews will start on the outside.
Still, for depth purposes, would be better to have Squirrell and one of Nimrod/Webb/Leacock. Surprised all three are in the portal. One of them would have gotten snaps and would be an injury away from starting.
I think we will add 5 more from the portal: OL, DT, 2 WR, S.Again, porthole movement isn't always the player's choice. I'm not sure why everyone forgets about the DB purge of 2023?
Self eval. What can we do to take next step?
1- Clear schollie room - which was always going to happen. 83 is the #. We are currently at 80, I believe.
2- Free up NIL $ - nail down current team, trim excess. Kids going to porthole likely isn't their choice. Each person constitutes a ship, and $.
3- Look at positions of need, and go after the best. Porthole closes in 24 hours. What is the plan going forward?
Here's what we know. We have needs. Staff nails down current roster before going hard and heavy. Essentially cant go hunting without any ammo.
We are in contact with some folks. Info will be given on an as needed basis. Per AP.
Agreed.I think we will add 5 more from the portal: OL, DT, 2 WR, S.
In order to do that, we will need to lose two more. I don’t know why Grant and Reddick would return. If they don’t leave during this window, they’ll leave in the spring.
Grant and Reddick were in the 2022 class. That was Heupel’s first class (hay was in the barn on the 21 class when he was hired). They were what we could get at the time.Agreed.
I do have a point, that occurred last night.
Why do we keep taking players we know won't ever contribute? This ties directly back into frustrations around WR & OL recruiting.
Thought they were eliminating walkons so that solves this loophole.I wonder if they are gonna close this loophole. Brooks and Bishop are not on scholarship, but i am sure they are getting NIL money. Which pays for school. Wonder how that works, we cannot be the only team with a couple guys like this that actually play. Just add an extra $50k to a kids NIL package and save scholarships?
