I think Leacock was just huge miss by everyone. The services, staff, etc.
he cant play.
How would Bru be back? He's out of eligibility. Plus, he already accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl.Nico could also be playing the connection card of reaching out to WR but needs room/money to make it happen. Nobody will complain if Branch ends up here and Bru is back. That leaves Boo, Staley and incoming freshman getting rest.
Bru is just a guy, to me. He's not garbage, but he isn't dynamic. If he even can come back, not sure I'd go out of my way to keep him. Obviously, we are in a bit of a pickle in terms of just having bodies, so I wouldn't turn him away. I just wouldn't overpay to hold him and then try to force him into the lineup ahead of some others.Nico could also be playing the connection card of reaching out to WR but needs room/money to make it happen. I think a lot of people have said he just can't cut it in practice, let alone games.Based on what though? I mean not like we've seen him on the field. And hard to say Pope knows since he's the same guy that kept MM and Staley off the field this year.
6 games in 2 years and 1 catch...I'm not sure he's just a huge miss when we have no data on him. Seems like with Bru & Thornton leaving he would have been "next in line" for that role of big WR with down the field speed.
I didn’t even know he had another year tbh lolBru is just a guy, to me. He's not garbage, but he isn't dynamic. If he even can come back, not sure I'd go out of my way to keep him. He’s a #3 and best suited for one one one with a Top WR taking the double coverage. Frees him up for short passes to move the chains.Bru is just a guy, to me. He's not garbage, but he isn't dynamic. Recruiting sevices whiff on ratings all the time.
Coaches recruit role players who are limited. Nobody better then us is getting Leacock on campus for visits.I mean maybe, but who?
Cause a lot of our local media talking heads have more misses than hits if we wanna pull up historical takes...and I've not been to any practices.
Point I guess, Pope recruited Leacock fully. Not an inherited guy and Pope had him for a full 2 seasons. A top 100 national player that never got on the field...a good coach will find a way to develop someone like that even if they don't live up to the hype they'll get something out of them.
Matthews isn’t going to leave. He’ll be starting for us in 2025. His agent leveraged the situation to get more $.I mean 23 offers and 18 were from power 4 schools...
Matthews just has 11 more offers.
Seems weird, if Matthews leaves with his 7 receptions it's a full failure by Pope, but Leacock who had an extra year in the system was just a "miss" by the recruiting services? I think a 1 & out is less damning to Pope than 2 years of not being able to develop his guy, imo.
Leacock was only top 15. A top 50 isn’t saying much at this level. Matthews was 5 or 6 and the only guy approaching that level the first four years. We need him back. But we have not recruited as well as you would expect or that we need at WR. Close on some big time guys but never the choice. And we were told we don’t pay top NIL at WR. Bad decision when we play elite teams.I mean, Webb was a top 50 WR in every ranking except ESPN...Leacock was a top 25 WR in every service and 4 star by all....gotta be a little worried that Pope couldn't develop them enough to get on the field ahead of Nimrod or injured guys.
Leacock to me is the big one, Pope was his Primary and this was his 2nd year in the system.
He does blitz a good percentage most games. He did at GA. But his blitz packages are shockingly ineffective. Virtually all good teams easily handle it beyond an occasional corner blitz. Not much disguise. He has a blitz rate of around 33%. Not 5%. Odd to claim he makes no adjustments given we had numerous comeback wins in SEC play.
It’s almost as if you don’t know what you’re talking about
