If you are trying to give the fans credit for that then congrats, but there is a LOUD vocal minority that acts entitled and hurts the program. The garbage that happened last night on Twitter with folks trashing Spyre/Vol Club will be used against Tennessee and may even cost us a player or two. You will know who to blame if that happens. Is Schiano our head coach?
People can blame Twitter but a lot of the vitriol and nonsense on this site and forum since the loss to OSU hasn’t been helpful either. If you really are a Volunteer fan repeatedly screaming for coaches to be fired is simply not helping. Let the people in charge that actually know the truth make an informed decision. Take what Tony V said to heart. You need to decide: Your either a Vol or your not. I’ll climb back into my hole now.Worst fan base in college sports
I don't even use social media. My point is that it has already been proved that the administration can't control Vol fans on social media. If you are trying to give the fans credit for that then congrats, but there is a LOUD vocal minority that acts entitled and hurts the program. Passion brings stupidity a lot of times. Every fanbase has them. But this doesn’t help our coaches ability to get us to the next level. People need to learn to put the phone down but that’ll never happen with some. With social media it’s really hard to tell who is a true fan and who is a dirty troll. We have a great and VERY passionate fan base.
I'm sure you're right, and totally agree that most of what people (fans & players alike) post on social media is absolutely pointless.Already happening
Yes players believe this. It’s irrational to think otherwise. They are people just like you and me. All it does is give them more confidence and leverage to act out against their own coaches and team. If we believe it, they certainly can to. Our fan base literally brags about stopping a hire and firing an AD. Stop pretending like fans don’t have an effect on the team.So players are gonna believe what fans say on Twitter. Come on get real
I agree with your sentiment, but the facts are that it hurts us. Which is why we all need to collectively resist that stuff regardless of the kids decision making. Think about recruits that don’t have that close of a relationship yet. This could be their first or second impression. It’s just overall a bad look and reputation for, not only our fan base, but our program as a whole.I'm sure you're right, and totally agree that most of what people (fans & players alike) post on social media is absolutely pointless.
BUT (and I can't believe I'm doing this) I'm gonna default back to what Saban said he told players about social media distractions, "why the xxxx would you care what some 30-something fat guy living in his mother's basement thinks?" If a player is influenced easily enough to make decisions based upon false information on the net, then they were just as likely to be susceptible to false information given to them by "friends, family, handlers, etc."
Not to wax all philosophical, but this is a discernment problem, not a result of the internet spawning a bunch of liars, cheats & trolls (they've always been there). Any individual (player or otherwise) making major life decisions based largely upon something they found online without substantiation, would probably find a way to make an equally bad decisions even if there were no fans (or posers) posting on social media.
