'25 Portal Thread

This is true. If we are using back channels to talk to players on teams currently waiting to play their bowl games, then it makes sense why no one is releasing the names.
Tons of teams are about to experience what we just did they just haven’t had their season end yet. There will be lots of portal additions in the next week. Just look at all the teams that will end their season in the next few days. It’s not just us it’s everyone. Give me what $$$$$ I want or I will enter the portal. Unlimited transfers is a great system. It is a great system if you’re a college kid that can play ball really good. It’s also wonderful for agents and handlers. If you’re a coach, fan or booster not so much. No need to worry about fans, we don’t need them anyway. Just give ME MY MONEY!!!

Hendon Hooker was clearly special - capable of handling the exotic sports car, and driving fast.

But just because you no longer have the QB that can run lightning fast tempo and check on the fly, it doesn’t mean you have to go base vanilla from a formation and play design perspective.

Good Defenses were just lining up, waiting to tee off on this Offense.

The Offensive regression has been totally un-fun to watch.
This

You could sit on your couch and figure out the tendencies depending on the down. From there you could call out plays from there the whole yr. So yeh D-Coordinators didnt have to work real hard against us thats for sure.

This! Alex Golesh leaving really hurt this offense. I get it Josh Heupel calls the plays, but Alex Golesh was seeing the defense alot better than Halsley. The bad thing is, both Elerbee and Halsley have been with Josh for a very very long time. Making a change at either staff position will be difficult but needs to happen. I do not envy CJH right now thats for sure.

Again it doesn’t sound like they are in a rush….the clock is ticking on when TN has to put him in tho. Those two things don’t jive so unless he tells TN to stop it, he is going in and at that point, I’d say what’s done is done.

Just commented on a thread titled “Mike Matthews to the portal soon”.

Man, we had receivers running wide open all year, and were among the elite in rushing O.

It's not philosophy. It's execution. If Nico can deliver on time and accurately and the receivers can catch the ball...
I don't think it's the same offense. The defenses were confused from the time the Vols got to the line. Motion everywhere. It's a very basic form of what he was doing two years ago. Lot's of debate as to why. I have no clue. Only Heupel knows. I refuse to believe Golesh was the masterind.

Dude is 19-19 at a school that has been highly competitive in the last 15 years. Pruitt was sub .500 at a school that been around .500 for the previous 15 years. Both were part of regressions but Billy’s has been far worse at Florida.

I by no means am taking up for Pruitt he was awful as a coach here but Billy has lead the Gators to their only 3 year span of .500 or worse since the 70s for a program that was an SEC title contender with the previous coach.

The only thing you could point to where you could say I would have more trust in Billy is his record from his SunBelt days. If you’re selling that I got some Butch Jones CMU to sell as well.
Look I’m not gonna defend Bayou Billy, but I am gonna say that Pruitt couldn’t win even while cheating and did more damage in the 3 short years he was here that we’re still dealing with the repercussions of his hire. To me that absolutely swamps any kind of .500 record a coach may have at another institution.

The Golesh made the offense work certainly seems to be a lazy take based on facts. Players from those years in the NFL and Golesh's offense at USF have been very mediocre. Lack of execution. Lack of attention to details. Lack of QB experience. Lack of WR separation. Drops by WR. All of those things have been much bigger deterrents than Golesh. Unless of course we think Golesh was responsible for all those things listed.

Yea the formations, motion, unique routes - all of it, gone.

This offense is designed to use tempo, wide splits, and deep balls to spread out and confuse defenses, thus opening up basically anything we want to do. We basically had to move away from two of those--tempo and deep balls.

CJH saw it and made a pretty radical adjustment. We became a downhill running team that chewed clock and won ugly. (And people are claiming CJH didn't make any offensive adjustments.)

I swear, VN posts are like this lion, prepared by a taxidermist that had never seen a lion.

Looks like @Weezer after a long night in the Waffle House dumpster.

I never said I was unsure or scared. Nor did I ever compare Billy to CJH in terms of my worries. I am, however, confident he is a much better coach that Pruitt. At the same time, based on history of the series and how their season ended, I am also confident that we should be worried about them next year and not think we’ve turned the tide. Until we get the monkey off our back (ie beat them in the Swamp) I will always be worried about Florida.

Let me be clear here for a second 🤣…we have a coach that took four years to figure out how to manage his time outs….the Billy thing isn’t far off😭🤣🤣 bring back AG

Yea that doesn’t sound great. Ive read this situation with MM as this needs to be resolved to the point that MM reaffirms he is staying and it’s done prior to UT having to actually submit the paperwork. If it goes past that deadline and he officially enters the portal, he ain’t coming back. Sounds like that’s where we are heading as it stands now.

Just commented on a thread saying Matthews is heading to the portal.

Agreed, it doesn’t make sense for him to delay his commitment to staying if he doesn’t want to see what is out there in the portal. The social media criticism is nothing more than an excuse for AP and company getting it wrong originally: “we can’t help that Vol fans on Twitter sowed seeds of doubt”. He knows what money NIL can earn him at Tennessee. He has been here so he must truly believe he can get more in the portal and he is probably right

And this take could be true aswell.

I don’t agree with that at all. Brent Hubbs bashed himself the other day for being wrong about the way he presented some information. I think Matthews people told Price that. Now, I think it might just be his excuse to leave, but I don’t think Price is covering for VolQuest.

How is there any debate as to why?? It’s pretty obvious why unless you truly believe he is intentionally sabotaging his own career for some odd reason. He is constrained by quarterback and oline play, nothing more. Nico couldn’t see the field and missed wide open receivers all season long. Heupel certainly deserves criticism for not developing Nico further and creating more schemes to mask those weaknesses

You don’t think he is covering for a website that pays his bills and relies on a continuous stream of subscribers?

No. His boss admitted to getting something wrong the night before, multiple times. I think Matthews family told Price that part about Spyre and Nico because the agent sees a chance to drive up a payday.

Maybe but Volquest has a vested interest in trying to remain legitimate in the eyes of its customers

They beat Ole Miss thanks to their defense stepping up and forcing 3 TOs. But UF had only 344 yards of total offense. If you re-watch that game, you'll see that OM beat themselves.

They didn't beat anyone else of note and they got throttled by Texas. This is Pruitt circa 2019. They "finished" strong by beating mediocre teams and everyone thought we were on the up and up. But we quickly found out that was fools gold in 2020.
They did get throttled by Texas but that wasn't the same FLA team. They had a TON of guys missing and Lagway also didn't play.
