And this may be an unpopular opinion on Vol message boards but Nico is far and away a more polished passer than Lagway and has a higher ceiling than Lagway.
I 100% agree.

Nico’s underlying numbers are borderline elite, especially for a freshman. He’s a lot better than he appeared at times this year.

Put some weapons around him, guys that can protect (Moe is a fantastic start), and another offseason under his belt and I’d be shocked if he wasn’t a top 10 QB in the country next year.

I might agree with you if we weren’t also talking about an entire position group leaving, and we’re not seeing that type of mass exodus at other positions.
OK. I am not worried in the least if you agree with me. If you want to wring your hands and worry, go for it. We can all 'adult' as we each see fit.

CJH has literally rebuilt the program from dumpster fire to the playoffs in four years,, under investigation and scholarship reductions, and you want to assume he's feckless at it. lol

How many of those dudes did we really want to keep though?

I think the fact that QB1 and fam met with coaches to see how the situation at WR is gonna be addressed adds a little smoke to the ordeal.
Same can be applied to the WR’s leaving this year. Until Matthews is in the portal, he’s not apart of it.

Man, we had receivers running wide open all year, and were among the elite in rushing O.

It's not philosophy. It's execution. If Nico can deliver on time and accurately and the receivers can catch the ball...
Would like to see a stat on how many overthrows and drops we have had this year.

ahem... Look at the WR group this year, and apply the same logic. You're making our point.

Do we know that for sure? Not trying to be contrary, just asking.

Same reason we know (really just guesses) that they didn’t fight to keep all the DBs last offseason. I’m sure it would’ve been reported on.

I’m sure they didn’t *want* to lose Squirrel but not sold that spot can’t be upgraded.

Well that goes back to my original point: If we can’t convince one of our own to stay, how we gonna convince top guys in the portal to come?

All the other dudes leaving and the deal with Nico just add a bunch of red flags to situation.

Bc these are individuals. Just bc one highly rated guy wants to leave (if he does indeed leave) doesn’t mean that a totally different highly rated guy wouldn’t want to join.

Hope you’re right, and this is an intentional overhaul (although I am sure the Matthews situation is not). I know A LOT of DB’s left last year, but don’t think we stripped it down to 2 returning DB’s and 3 freshmen on the upcoming roster.

What about the other point regarding Nico?
