As for the report and speculation on Banks as the front-runner to be Clemson's next defensive coordinator:
Agents frequently play the leverage game by trying to make their clients appear in demand elsewhere.
Let's just put it this way: We feel comfortable saying that the report on Banks as the front-runner was news to even Swinney himself.
Almost no one has a great window into
Swinney's thinking during a tumultuous time such as this one. But we feel confident we have a read on his thinking on the Banks count.
Your opinion probably doesn’t carry as much weight as Hubbs, AP and numerous insiders that say he’s gone.IMO the only people that know if MM is officially going into portal is MM, his Family and Agent.
Put yourself in MM's shoes. I would hold out until last minute trying to get a better deal from UT or any other school offers through back channels with my Agent. I want the coaching staff to believe I am going into the portal so they might up the offer at last minute. Once UT tells me this is final offer and the time is up .... That is when I will eventually let everyone know my decision.
IMO it is still 50/50 on whether MM officially enters the portal
The NCAA developed an “educational video” about athletes rights to transfer and potential downsides to transferring. At the place I was most recently, our compliance office made requesting to be in the portal an online process. The AD purchased and software and every athlete had a log in assigned to them after they signed with the school. That way their entire file could be handled electronically. NLI’s (which have now been done away with), scholarship agreements, medical notes, etc was all visible in that software. So you’d log in, choose the “enter transfer portal” function, complete an online form, and the last step was watching the video before you hit the submit button. There was never one single piece of “paperwork” involved in an effort to make things more digital. So watching the video shouldn’t be holding him up. My understanding is TN is using that same software in the AD or some very similar so he can do that from his phone. The only thing holding himself up is him I believe. Also has to do with some video he has to watch, so they could use that as a stall tactic too.
Now do 2022 South Carolina.Lanning got outcoached. Sark likely gets outcoached next. Then Kirby or Freeman or whoever. Ohio state out talents all the remaining teams by a fairly large margin. Not only the talent but the experience of the starters on that roster is far and away more than any remaining team.
I actually felt the same way when I first saw Hubbs thought MM would be in portal this morning. But then I thought about MM probably trying to make the coaches think he was leaning towards leaving. After all, where do Hubbs, AP and insiders get their info? the TN staff.Your opinion probably doesn’t carry as much weight as Hubbs, AP and numerous insiders that say he’s gone.
I don't understand why these teams don't just pay significantly more when they are high school recruits. What changed since last year? Seems like other schools are just trying to cause further chaos on our roster while we are down.I just read where apparently TN met MM’s demands but other schools stepped in and offered significantly more. (I can’t find the post so who knows?) If this is the case, I would move on. JMO.
I’m starting to think other schools are finding a lot more money for their NIL and TN is relying too much on the fans to support it. I’m probably wrong but it appears that way. Buying players is the new norm.I don't understand why these teams don't just pay significantly more when they are high school recruits. What changed since last year? Yeah. I was kind of a douche earlier. Apologies. Usually reserve that behavior to people that are also being douches, it’s been a rough week.I actually felt the same way when I first saw Hubbs thought MM would be in portal this morning.
