I don't hate Amari Jefferson coming if it's true. He didn't come to Tennessee because Saban personally got involved in his recruitment, and he's no longer there.

Vitello wanted him, Heupel wanted him, and Kelsey Pope was unproven.

He's a multi -sport athlete with multiple years of eligibility and already knows what the portal is like. He could easily be the next Bru McCoy for us in that this just happens to be a better spot for him after the flash wears off.

One way to look at it is AJ is a dead swap for MM body type and skills and AJ was ranked a little higher. Additionally we are looking for better ball skills and strength over pure speed. AJ fits the bill there. He is not a Brazzell/Thorton type. He can fight off defenders and catch in traffic.

I personally am super stoked, Saban personally went after this kid. Just watch his film from high school. He is a great get. Hope people understand how good he fits Heupel’s style.

Picking up Jefferson tells me MM is a dead deal. Even trade, perhaps even a bit better, IMO. I also don’t believe this is who Scoop was referring to. Jefferson is a great and exciting pick up, but I don’t think it makes our WR room even better—or whatever exact word choice he used. So I think there’s another apple out there about to fall.

I honestly don’t get some of you? When this kid ( Jefferson ) was picking between us and bama it was imperative that we get him and now it looks like he realized he made a mistake and wants to come here and some go “ meh “.

He won’t be the only one we get. Staff and all of us really wanted him then and I’m happy we may be getting him now!

I’m not “unhappy” about it. It just doesn’t move the needle. Outside of Brazzell, we are basically losing all of our production at the WR spot and the brightest talent we had in the next man up category (MM). It’s hard to get excited about portal pick ups of a player who has zero track record to know if he’ll actually produce or not.
