I'm good with not taking another WR or RB and going with who we have. I'm even good with no more OL as long as Elarbee has some of his HS guys ready to go. I really wanted to add a big DT, just for rotational purposes. And I still think adding another impact safety would be beneficial. But the coaches see things differently than I do. They want a WR, RB, OL, and DT. Or at least VQ and insiders say they do.

Haha. That's something else we don't do is play young players.
You’re right. If only guys like Nico Iamaleava, Desean Bishop, Peyton Lewis, Ethan Davis, Arian Carter, Jermod McCoy, Jeremiah Telander, Boo Carter, Jalen Smith, Daevin Hobbs, etc. could have gotten on the field…

I also found it interesting that guys like Ryan Williams(7 drops), Tre Harris(5 drops in 8 games), and Kyren Lacy(6 drops) were on that list. Also, Juice Wells had as many drops as Chris Brazzell(6), who was our only guy on the list.
Some of those guys just had a ton of targets. It’s the catch rate that matters.

Thanks for posting this. Interesting that Brazzells worst 2 games were against 2 of the 3 best teams we played this year in Bama and OSU...with absolutely horrible stats vs OSU that anyone should be ashamed of.

I do wonder what they call a "drop" though. It must be very strict for the numbers to be as low as they were...like the ball has to be thrown directly at their numbers, and they get both hands on the ball, and a defender isnt even touching the WR so it must 100% be on them? Something as strict as that because Nimrod and Squirrel both 100% dropped 5 or more passes this season...each. Nimrod dropped 2 that were TDs vs Arkansas alone. I wouldnt be at all surprised if Thornton dropped 5 balls either. He just scored 6 TDs and made huge yardage on the balls he did catch. Bru dropped some this year too.

I have a totally different standard. If a WR gets both hands on the ball...unless its WAY behind them on a crossing route or something, that should be caught. If it isnt, thats a drop. 2 hands on the ball inside a reasonable catch radius should be caught every time. Thats their job...to receive passes. Someone else posted on here from PFF or somewhere that UT WRs were in the bottom 10...either in P4 or FBS ...bottom 10 in both dropped passes and getting separation on their routes. The drops part is very believable. We did have wide open WRs running behind the defense this year though...in every game but UGA and OSU anyway...and Nico missed a handful of them on overthrows, maybe 5 or 6 that were TDs. There were just as many that were dropped though. TDs. Nimrods alone were enough to win us the Arkansas game. By far the best hands on the team this year were Kitselmans. He made tough catches too over the middle when he knew big hits were coming. Our WRs massively underperformed this year and thats why we cleaned house. Pope better coach his butt off to get all these kids ready for August lol.

I agree with everything except the comment about the OL. I'd take at least one. 2 if we can manage the numbers. We have to have better line play and depth. I don't trust Ellarbee's coaching or evals. Guess I'm saying we kinda need to shotgun that position. Try to make sure we give Nico a front he can count on this year. Can't afford another year like last year on the OL. And I can feel injuries on the line coming if we don't have the depth.

I don't trust Elarbee either, but as long as he's the OL coach, it's gonna be what it's gonna be. Up to Heupel to make that change, if he deems it necessary.

There's no reading comprehension to be had. You want to downplay Lewis's performance and prop up others like Hughes (Tulane RB, not Tulsa, like it matters) without using the same criteria.

Spout off 'reading comprehension" all you want. It doesn't change the facts.
Hughes had 900 yards after contact BOTH seasons.

He was rated top 10 RBs according to PFF.

“criteria” stfu

Again, I’ve said this, but you lack the ability to comprehend what you’re reading.

Those dreaming of Wingo or Tate are begging for disappointment. I'm hoping one of these teams will lose a decent DT to the portal that we can pick up for our rotation. Or maybe an OL if Prego goes elsewhere.
Indeed. Neither of those guys will head to Knoxville. Makes no sense. Plus, the Manning era begins next year. They know everyone will be watching that unfold. Why would you not want to be in that spotlight as a WR? It was kinda that way with Nico early on, but since that didn't happen so all eyes will be on Manning next season.

There is no reason to take a RB imo unless the top 2 we have just can’t pass block or you want a more receiving back. Bishop and Lewis will be good. This offense is super RB friendly. Freshmen will come in and contribute too most likely. WR. WR. WR. I’ll say it over and over.

LOS, LOS, LOS

Line of scrimmage is more important.

If Tennessee can land Pregnon, I’d like to see 3 more additions after: DT, WR, and Safety. Then let Spring determine if you need another RB or if the freshmen are ready to be our depth.

They may have already decided that they don’t need a Safety, if they believe Farooq and the two Thomas’ are ready to step up. But if that’s the case, I don’t wanna see Turrentine starting.
