Who? Austin?Lance Heard is not very good and Austin Sanders is a true freshman
We all really value your expert opinions coachSo we let Seldon go, not wanting to give him a chance at WR and he could still be RB, yet we are looking at a mid RB in Thomas and Humphrey is still out there... This is a cluster F... everyone will be happy with me stepping away and just lurking, as this is just getting Pathetic. I can't wait to see this board in the fall... wonder if most will still be in denial... We spent all our money supposedly on freshman (class was like 10-15, not even top 5) and retains, and have nothing left to replace the talent we lost. We sign Banks to an extension--- our talent level this year masked his inability to make adjustments during the game, never blitzed, ran zone until our opponent got to the red zone (folks I guess forgot how we had to outscore our opponents the first few seasons because our defense sucked), and our Oline coach is still hanging out along with the WR coach who apparently didn't get glowing reviews from all the mass WR's leaving... Got it.
That was one my biggest head scratchers. When the offense stalled we didn’t do ANYTHING different or creative. Seemed stubborn to me.It’s just a stupid characterization to say we’re signing a depth player at a skill position. Anyone who says that doesn’t understand how it works. You sign great players and they compete. I’ve heard AP say this too. “They like Lewis. They’re looking for depth.” Sure they like Lewis. He is fast and strong and can get stronger. He’s also young. He can also get hurt. Georgia and Alabama are five deep with RBs that could start at any school. Kids come to compete and play. Any running back we sign will be hungry and stubborn and believe he can be the starter. That’s the job description. “Hey buddy, we need a third guy. That’s you.” does not happen. If they sign Thomas, it will be because they believe he can contribute. He isn’t the only option, or the best.
We did not tell Seldon to move on, and the problem was not lack of talent or his desire to play WR. He’s a freak athlete, but he was injured more often than not for two solid seasons. Sometimes it’s best for a kid that talented to start fresh. If there is a complaint in that room, it’s that the snaps allocated didn’t follow the practice performance. Seldon caught balls out of the backfield and had the speed to run sweeps and the option. That’s happened often in practice, but never in a game. Lewis and Sampson had success in a two back set in the red zone, but it never got called in a game. We had a talented versatile room, and we basically ran one play, with one guy 75% of the time. We’re talking to some very good RBs. If we sign a “third guy” we just didn’t deliver. That isn’t the goal.
I guess kids truly think mentioning us will raise their price.
I have no idea what it is.
This is what confuses me about you. That was a rational post, Heard was in fact injured early and got better as year progressed.Heard was dealing with an injury almost all of last year. And by seasons end he was good. Oh I guess he can’t improve right? Good grief.
Trolling works better when you throw a rational thought in on ocassion. Gives some people pause so they will engage. If he’s too obvious with it too many will just ignore him and he doesn’t get his supply. This is what confuses me about you. That was a rational post, Heard was in fact injured early and got better as year progressed.
Then other times not so much.. lol
I agree with this. I do try to look at it from the coaches' perspective in retrospect, though. As a play caller, if you don't know from play to play whether one or both of your OTs are going to get blown up, it seems like the easiest solution is to "dance with the girl you brought" and go with what has given you the most consistent success. That was one my biggest head scratchers. When the offense stalled we didn’t do ANYTHING different or creative. Seemed stubborn to me.
Yes you are going crazy, but it has nothing to do with the transfer portal drama. JK.!! But in all seriousness, I don't understand why that always tends to happen but in some cases, not all, I believe it has to do with leverage as far as $/NIL are concerned. There have actually been a couple of occasions within the last couple of weeks where a player in the portal has thrown out our name and we didn't even reach out to them and vice versa. Evidently teams and players view UT as a big money spender and as a result they use us to raise their value. And then on the other hand you have situations like Pregnon who visited here, but we did not agree with his asking price equating to his true value/worth. Almost every situation is different, but it's becoming more and more popular for athletes to use other "Big $ & Big Spending Universities as a leverage tactic to raise or increase their NIL value so they can earn as much money as possible. Tbf, I can't hate on the kids for hustling and trying to get paid because the majority of these athletes will never make it to the NFL. So as a result, they're gonna try to get rich or earn as much $ as possible while they are in college. And tbh, if it was me, especially with how certain positions and skill players are demanding a pretty penny, it makes sense to stay as long as you possibly can in college due to the value of some of these athletes. They potentially can make more in college than they can in the NFL, at least until they establish their name or have a few years under their belt. And who wouldn't want to be a teen/young adult as long as they can where they live for free and have the best time of their lives. Few responsibilities besides their specific sport and get an education/ degree at the same time. Being an adult aint all its cracked up to be so dont grow up until you have to. Makes perfect sense. Sorry about the novel!!Legitimately curious the flow of info on these visits that never happen. Bc seems like we get a few “will visit TN” followed by “I don’t see it”. Am I going crazy?
