He broke it down as to why we were 15th nationally. And how it was inflated by our non-conference opponents. We were not good scoring offensively in sec play. Our offense was not what it needed to be. Coaches know it, players knew it, and our fanbase saw it too.
Irrelevant. You only play who is on your schedule. We were 15th nationally on offense. That’s a fact regardless of what narrative you or anyone else wants to bring. No our offense wasn’t what it needed to be. But it was good none the less.

Like I said every team benefits from weaker teams. Stop using it as a negative against us. It’s dumb.

Are we pursuing guys and just not hearing about it? The only guy we're known to be currently pursuing is the RB. We're waiting on Monday's game for a possible "splash WR". But what about OL, DT, and CB/S? No names being thrown around by VQ?

I apologize. It was a smart ass post and it was neither funny nor warranted. The basketball game earlier today affected my mood.
Mine too!! Can't believe we came back from 16 down and couldn't make the FT when we needed it most. I truly believe if we had forced OT we would have won because we definitely had the momentum and better team. Just waited too long to start actually playing hard. If we don't learn from this game that the SEC is loaded from top to bottom and every game is gonna be a dogfight then we ain't gonna win anything. Not the SEC, not the SEC tourney, and definitely not gonna win the natty. I really like our team and Chaz seems to be getting his stroke back, but he has to be more aggressive coming off screens and trying to get open. He has got to be way more physical on both sides of the ball, especially offensively for us to have a shot.

they keep it hush hush now

Waiting on the splash receiver… which I would trade for a starter quality OL or DB
You might grab a chair and popcorn because you'll be waiting a good long while. When has Heupel brought in a high dollar, "splash" player from the portal? I think he's been putting his faith in his HS recruiting and filling holes/adding depth pieces. All comes down to how good his staff is in evaluations and development. In year 4, I think we've got a body of work to look at and form some opinions. We are what we are.

Serious question. Does anyone see UT ponying up the scratch it will take to sign Tate? Know he'd likely be the best WR in our room, but he's no better than #3 at OSU. Is that kind of money for Tate well spent? Or could we take that money and put it toward multiple players who can start and/or provide depth? It's not like we're "one player away"....at least in my opinion.

Then why would depth help?

Go get the best players.

Short memory? Injuries are a part of the game. Mayes, Pili, etc. Still say we'd better get another playable CB. We've also got needs on the LOS...both sides. Not sold on our LB corp either. Just saying paying a huge sum to one player vs adding multiple player who can either make us better or provide depth at critically thin positions might be a better way to use the money. Will adding OSU's 3rd best WR really bring us into competing with the elite programs in the sport? Not in my mind. Now if we're talking about their freak #1 receiver, that's a horse of a different color.

They have not had four years recruiting on a level playing field. We can form opinions, but they're probably not worth much.

Rumor from the inside is that this staff likes this roster a lot. They seem to like it a lot more than VN does?

in all honesty, what college coach is going to say they don't like their rosters?

Aren't we still under a scholly limit of 83 for another year or two? So we can't really judge Heupel and co. until those limitations are off the table? I used to believe that a coach needs 4 years to flip the roster and get "his players" before it's fair to judge him. With the portal, I'm not so sure I can accept that premise.

This was from a supposed insider, so take it however seriously you want. It's not like this is Josh scheduling an out of band press conf to tell the world that the staff likes the roster. It's supposedly an insider source reporting on the coachs' feelings behind the scenes.

And, for the record, if I were a coach and had questions about the roster, the last thing I'd do is pump up expectations. I'd pull a Saban and poor mouth everything. Why raise expectations above your own so you create the time when you have to answer to the fanbase expectations you created? Geez, man. I'm sure after four years CJH has realized VN is by and large a bunch of lunatics who can create unrealistic expectations all on their own. Why would he stoke those above his own?

All I'm saying is that I'm not sure we can judge their "evaluations and development" if they have been on recruiting disadvantages. I'm assuming that that would also carry over into recruiting from the portal.

def not sold on the LBs either

that group has been horrible without 30 yr old Pili

At this point, until Ohio State and Notre Dame players start entering the portal, pickings are slim. Not many, if any, "great" players left.

Coaches going hard on recruiting several positions through portal additions is another pretty good sign they don't feel great about their current roster. The fact CJH hasn't done that can be considered a good indicator.
