'25 Portal Thread

I saw all these posts that seemed to insinuate that someone posted something absurd. I couldn't see it due to the poster being on my blocked list. I unblocked the message to find out he called Randy Moss a one trick pony! Holy smokes Batman......that is one for the wall on honor. At least it verified my choice to have that poster blocked.

Insane-o 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I've never said Elarbee was the worst OL coach ever. I've actually credited as being great at teaching run blocking. But he appears subpar at teaching pass blocking. And he hasn't developed any of his HS recruits as of yet. Here we have posters dreaming of bringing in all the ND OL transfers while singing the praises of Elarbee. If you want all those OL transfers, you obviously have less faith in Elarbee than you're proclaiming. My guess, and this is only a guess, if we Land Pendleton, that's it for the OL. Satterwhite will most likely be our starting center as we finally see an Elarbee recruit getting serious time. This season will be a tell-tale season for Elarbee, IMO. And I'll gladly eat crow if they pass block well and protect Nico. But protecting Nico is a huge priority.
Well, we also have quite a few posters hammering Elarbee for not developing and getting any of his HS recruits playing time while simultaneously clamoring for us to bring in every OL that hits the portal and claiming that our staff is napping when they don't land those guys. At some point, people need to choose a side. You can't have both of those things.

Lot of nuance. He clearly doesn't connect well with high schoolers. He apparently connects well enough with older guys which has helped with portal recruiting.

I think him not "developing" HS players has more to do with the first point. Because he's not connecting and recruiting well, he's not bringing in many guys who really ever had the potential.

The coaching has been great at run blocking. Can't be denied. When he has an elite player he's helped take them to the next level (D. Wright). We've seen development even in a short term from some guys like Heard, Mays, Karic, and I'd even say Johnson. Does seem like he's gotten the max out of some guys like Spraggins, Davis, and Campbell.

But the pass blocking has been a consistent issue since 2022 after Wright left. Still see guys with slow feet getting spin cycled sometimes and Nico and Milton just simply didn't get the time in the pocket you see guys on elite teams get.

He was. Moss the was best deep WR ever. But that was his game. Just go deep. He wasn’t a route runner like Rice, Owen’s, Sharpe etc. That doesn’t take away from the fact that Moss is one of the greatest WRs to ever play.
Moss had insane speed. That’s undeniable, but there more to his game then just go deep. You can’t have over 15,000 yards and 156 tds just by going deep.

My chosen side has been play the young guys. If Elarbee has been doing his job, some of them should be ready. BUT, if the coaches feel we need the help, then I hope they get the help.

Before people say the young guys haven't been on campus long enough, Heard was a freshman AA at LSU when we brought him in. Pendleton saw major playing time as a soph at ND. Young guys are being developed and seeing playing time early at other programs. No reason we shouldn't have at least a couple ready to go.
