Why can't we pay Jeremiah Smith $4.5 lol

At least it's forcing Ohio State to pony up to keep their top players. Makes the slice of the pie a little smaller for all their other players.
Because that's an insane amount of money to give a WR, even one of Smith's caliber. Only college players who should garner that kind of money right now are stud QBs, truly elite edge rushers, and maybe elite OTs (but probably not).

Seen flashes from Bishop at times. Not as confident in Lewis

Dont understand why some here act like Bishop isnt as good as Lewis or cant be RB1.(not you)

Bishops HS output is second to none.
Bishop out produced Lewis last year.
Bishops PFF grade is a whopping 10+ points higher than Lewis last season because he was much better in pass pro...which is why he is likely RB1 until/unless Lewis passes him. Also much better in YAC. Right now Bishop is better in every single aspect of being a RB than Lewis is except 1...top end speed. Hits the hole faster (and fearless inside) accelerates at least as fast first 5 yards, vision is better, YAC is MUCH better, runs lower and with more power. Blocks better in pass pro. Lewis is better in exactly 1 way...and it hasnt even happened for him yet. IF the Oline opens a hole I could drive my car through (like they sometimes do) and Lewis makes it past the LOS untouched....hes gonna take it to the house. Bishop might get caught by a DB if he takes a good angle. Nobodys gonna catch Lewis because of his track speed top end. It has never happened in a game yet though...and he does not accelerate like Sampson OR Bishop in the first 5 or 10 yards. His legs are too long and he runs upright like a WR. Takes a second for him to hit his stride. Lewis had the fastest GPS time on the team last year though ~22mph. Was posted in fall camp IIRC. He is very fast.

I am not down on Lewis, at all. I am very glad we have him and hes gonna be a good RB In my opinion. I just dont understand why so many people assume Lewis is gonna be RB1 next year and Bishop is not. Based on statistics and game experience, PFF etc, Bishop is ahead of Lewis in every single measurable way. There is literally nothing a person can point to that has ever happened at Tennessee to show Lewis is a better RB...or ahead of Bishop in the pecking order in any way. I think its just because Lewis had better star rating out of HS? That means nothing once the pads are on though.

@KingVFL - do you think we may also look at another quality starter for CB with McCoy's injury in addition to 1-5 needs you reference we are targeting, or do you think we are confident he will rehab in time for the important games on our schedule for the 2025 season? Also, is Onis 100% now off our board? I believe our coaches recently visited with him.

Or Thomas might be our big STAR. 🌟

Interested to see where he fits in. Glad we have him regardless.

BOTH the freshman RBs we have coming in are very quick, fast, and have wiggle. Watching that 2 headed monster grow up behind Bishop/Lewis is gonna be fun. We have a really young RB room other than Star...but its also really talented and these are Coach Hype style RBs. Quick and fast. Exciting future at RB .

Well, he’s gonna be a RS freshman. Is that the expectation now, 2nd year guys SHOULD be ready to start in the SEC by the beginning of their second year?
The kid we just signed saw significant playing time at ND as a RS-FR. Heard was a freshmen AA when we pursued him. Everyone is hoping Sanders comes in and starts day one. Seems like expectations are always shifting.

Sanders is likely a legit future 1st day draft pick...but starting as a true freshman at Tackle in the SEC is a tall order. Super rare . Hope he can do it...people can point to Heards improvement over the season, he did. He also graded out at ~40 for the SEASON. Starter is 70 and above right? 80 and above is all conference level Guy. Forty. 40. Campbell was the same btw. Neither one of our Tackles played at an acceptable level last season except running the ball . Horrific in pass pro. Spraggins and Karic werent a whole lot better at Guard. Georgia and OSU dominated our Oline, and shut down our Dline too. We never knocked Beck down last season. Clean jersey after the game. We still went 10-2 because of good defense and a dominant running game. Cant wait until we get the passing game going again. We will be hard to beat.

Imo the problem is too many people throw blanket expectations on the whole position. Every player is different and develops differently. How many Trey Smiths have we EVER seen that were truly ready to compete in the SEC, mentally and physically, their freshman or RS freshman years? It takes truly elite elite talent to do that and that shouldn’t be the expectation for every player, but to so many fans it is.

No way, these coaches are flying blind. They have no clue, no plan and keep getting caught with their pants down and getting stuffed in a locker. ONLY posters on volnation have any forethought on how UT football should handle recruiting and the transfer portal. Coaching staff is busy twiddling their thumbs
Well, this is a damn lie. I wouldn't trust any of you to run a lemonade stand. Now, I on the other hand, am a fountain of wisdom the coaches would be smart to listen to.

Isn't McCoy supposed to be fine by the fall? I understand getting insurance, but who do you convince to come here to be "insurance." That's not why guys enter the portal. Further, you can't afford to drop a lot of money on a guy to be a backup, which he will be if McCoy is healthy by fall as expected.

When I was 9, I took my lemonade stand from a small-shop, street vending, one-kid business to a publicly traded, multi-billion-dollar enterprise. Our IPO was the highest ever in the lemon byproduct sector. You can google it (but don't. Just trust me).

i think a lot of people are worried about his actual level of play, not his likelihood to get medically cleared. It takes guys coming off of an acl tear a while to get back to their original ability if they can get there at all. I don't think we can go out and get a McCoy level talent at this position at this point in the portal process. My guess is that we bring in another CB with potential as a depth piece when rosters shake out in the spring. It's possible that one of our younger talents pop in spring camp, and this fear goes away.

Isn't Jalen McMurray the kind of guy you would go get as insurance? He is already on the team.

Sounds like you're saying we need to replace Elarbee. Why so negative, Marcus? ;)
